Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Howard Blanchard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Smith!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Joseph Jones and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blanchard tries to close the distance and clinch up but Smith swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Smith works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Smith stalks Blanchard and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Blanchard's face. Blanchard staggers backwards, shaken.
A right-left combo lands from Smith.
Blanchard moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Smith changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Smith throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Blanchard.

Smith has closed the distance and engaged Blanchard in a clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Smith manages to pull guard.
Blanchard throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Blanchard working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Smith working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Blanchard.
Smith controls Blanchard momentarily but Blanchard frees himself.

Blanchard stands up and waves to Smith to follow him.

Smith connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
A cross from Smith lands.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Smith.

Blanchard bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Smith drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Blanchard kicks Smith off and gets to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Smith counters with a stiff right hand.

Smith moves into the clinch successfully.
Blanchard lands a knee to the body.

Blanchard manages to break the clinch.
Blanchard fails to land the takedown.
Blanchard fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Howard Blanchard. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Smith gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Blanchard stalls.

Smith pulls guard effortlessly.

Blanchard is in close to Smith's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Blanchard thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Blanchard has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Blanchard is looking to work some ground and pound but Smith has wrist control.
Blanchard postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Smith looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Smith looks winded!
Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Blanchard throwing strikes from guard but Smith blocks nicely.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Blanchard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Blanchard postures up and lands a big shot to Smith's brow.

Blanchard gets caught flat footed, as Smith shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Blanchard is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Smith presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Smith pulls guard effortlessly.

Blanchard stands and steps away. Smith gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Blanchard fails with a takedown attempt.
Smith looks to land a combination but Blanchard avoids it well.

Blanchard rushes Smith and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Smith looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Blanchard lands a good knee to the midsection. Smith won't want to take too many of those.

Smith gets tackled into the cage by Blanchard. Blanchard maintains the clinch.

Blanchard is pulling down on Smith's head. It's preventing any offense from Smith, at least for the moment.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Frank Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Smith wants it to stay on the feet.

Smith shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Blanchard eats them both and turns towards Smith to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

That was a close second round but I would say that Howard Blanchard will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Smith forces Blanchard back against the cage and clinches.

The fight stays on the outside here - Blanchard looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Smith is looking for the big counter here.
Smith lands a nice shot that snaps Blanchard's head back.

Blanchard tries to kick Smith off but Smith keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Smith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Blanchard rushes Smith and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Blanchard wants to take the fight to the mat but Smith manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Blanchard ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Blanchard no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Blanchard holds on and takes a little breather.

Blanchard looking for a triangle here. Smith is fighting it but it looks tight! Blanchard pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Smith is tapping out - this one is all over!
