Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Damian Savas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marty Slater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Savas comes into the arena with Seven Nation Army blaring out of the sound system. Marty Slater acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Damian Savas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marty Slater!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Joseph Jones and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savas stuffs the takedown attempt from Slater. Slater gets slowly back to his feet.
Savas fails with an attempt to clinch.

Savas looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Savas trying to control the position from guard on top but Slater is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Slater wants to control the position but Savas says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Slater keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Slater looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Savas wants to stand but Slater has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Slater wants to get back to his feet.
Slater trying to control but Savas postures up.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Slater shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Savas counters with a takedown into side control.

Savas stands up and beckons Slater to his feet.
Slater slips a jab and a cross from Savas.
Marty Slater seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Slater avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Savas shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Savas showed some decent athleticism there.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Savas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Slater keeps working.
Slater is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Savas's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Savas's back!

Slater moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Savas has worked his arm free - good work by Savas!
Savas manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Slater is keen to just control but Savas is a slippery customer.
Slater stops Savas from getting back to his feet.
Slater is pressing down on Savas's thigh, looking to free his foot. Savas is holding on for now.
Savas wants to get back to his feet.

Slater is trying a forearm choke� I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


The fight stays on the outside here - Savas looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Slater shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Savas counters with a low kick, right behind Slater 's knee.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Savas counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Slater!

Savas avoids the attempt from Slater to control.
Savas pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Savas is landing with some decent strikes but Slater is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Slater is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Savas scoring with strikes but Slater is staying in there.
Savas looking to control but Slater is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Slater slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Savas tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Slater.

Savas stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Slater to get to his feet.
Slater gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Savas counters with a head kick.

Slater throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Savas escapes and throws Slater's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Slater tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Savas wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Slater is pressing down on Savas's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Savas is looking to stand up but Slater won't let him.
Slater seems keen to control Savas's posture.
Savas stopping the sweep attempt from Slater.

Damian Savas dominated that second round.
That's time! Savas's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Slater feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Savas is trying to control the position but Slater postures up.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Savas is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Damian Savas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Slater is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Savas looking to hit a scissor sweep but Slater is one step ahead there.

Slater gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Slater holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Slater working for a triangle but Savas defends it easily.
Savas wanted to stand there but Slater had control of the position.

Slater escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Savas gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Savas avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Marty Slater comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Savas has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
