PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Okan Gunduz (ranked 6245 p4p, 0 weight class) and Random Joe (ranked 25217 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Okan Gunduz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Random Joe!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gunduz is defended easily by Joe.
Gunduz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Joe's waist but Joe gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gunduz off to one side.
Gunduz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Joe but Joe pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Okan Gunduz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Joe defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gunduz.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gunduz throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Joe throws out a counter right but Gunduz avoids it with no problem.

Gunduz rushes Joe and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gunduz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Joe manages to get himself to full guard.

Gunduz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gunduz pushing down on Joe's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Gunduz thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Well, if Gunduz is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Random Joe is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Joe is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Gunduz with a body shot.

Okan Gunduz dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Joe tries to free his leg and advance position but Gunduz is retaining full guard.
Gunduz will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Joe really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gunduz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Joe wanted to stand there but Gunduz had control of the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gunduz is on top in guard.

Joe is looking to stand up but Gunduz isn't so interested in that idea.
Gunduz slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Gunduz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Joe is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Joe is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Gunduz has Joe pressed against the cage, preventing Joe from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Gunduz breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
No luck for Gunduz with that takedown attempt.

Gunduz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Joe paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Gunduz throws a chopping leg kick but Joe manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Gunduz wants to slow Joe down by chopping away at his legs.
Gunduz jabs Joe to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Gunduz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Joe paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Gunduz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Joe can do to turn this around?

Random Joe comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
