The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sugar tries to clinch up but Murugan circles away and keeps his distance.

Sugar shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Murugan's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Murugan is looking for a triangle but Sugar pushes his legs off easily.

Murugan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sugar has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Murugan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sugar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Sugar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sugar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Murugan can't keep his opponent in guard - Sugar advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
