Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Man Schultz (ranked 24719 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derrick Vernon (ranked 25354 p4p, 0 weight class). Derrick Vernon has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Man Schultz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Derrick Vernon! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schultz tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Vernon defends well and Schultz ends up having to push Vernon into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Vernon looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Vernon fails with an attempt to clinch.
Schultz is looking to counter with head kicks. Vernon shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Schultz has his hands clasped together around Vernon's back. He's all about the action. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Schultz actively working from the bottom here. Schultz controlling the position well.
That's one minute gone in the round. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Schultz's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Vernon prevents Schultz from improving his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Schultz is controlling Vernon's position as best he can from this difficult position. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Schultz is trying to maintain the position but Vernon is very close to passing his half guard.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Vernon closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Vernon looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Vernon throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Vernon looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Schultz is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now. Schultz throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land. Schultz wants to control but Vernon postures up. Schultz is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Schultz is doing well to control the position and prevent Vernon from advancing to side control. Further stalling from Schultz.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Schultz slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Vernon being controlled here momentarily. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Schultz changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Vernon looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Derrick Vernon dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Schultz shoots in and bounces Vernon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Vernon has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Schultz has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Vernon keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Schultz's efforts to push away. Vernon pulls guard successfully.
Schultz drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Schultz as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Vernon screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Schultz! Nice submission victory there!
