Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lamont Mays! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roi Asher! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mays fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Asher has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Asher has managed to clinch.
Mays lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Asher wants a takedown but no success here.
Mays pulls guard. Asher controls from within his opponent's guard. Mays is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Mays is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mays looking for subs off his back but Asher has passed one foot through into half guard.
Mays is trying to maintain the position but Asher is very close to passing his half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Asher tries to pass to full mount but Mays defends it. Mays wants to get back to his feet. Asher tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mays knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Asher sitting and controlling from the half guard. Mays tries to kick Asher off in order to stand up. Asher Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control. You can see the frustration on Mays's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Asher tries to move into full mount but can't pass Mays's legs. Mays tries to control but Asher manages to take his back. Mays covering up well and avoiding damage. Mays trying to control the hands but Asher breaks the grip. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Asher working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mays finds himself mounted whilst avoiding strikes. Mays tries to hold on but Asher postures up. Asher raining down hammerfists from mount. Mays is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Asher throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Mays is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Asher takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Asher avoids the attempt from Mays to control. Asher tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Mays is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Asher trying to control but he's not successful this time. Mays tries to control the position but Asher now has his back.
Asher trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Mays doesn't escape. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Asher gets his hands free as Mays looks to control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roi Asher dominated that round. That's time! Mays's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Mays shoots in but no luck this time. Asher takes a kick to the side of the head. Asher has Mays up against the cage in a clinch.
Mays looking to throw knees to the head but Asher is blocking nicely.
Mays with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Mays breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Asher instigates a clinch. Mays pulls Asher into guard.
Mays isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Asher stacks Mays on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Asher! Mays seems a little lost for a moment, as Asher dominates the positioning.
That's one minute gone in the round. Asher lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Asher decides to stand up, so the ref orders Mays to his feet. Asher dives in and scores a takedown into Mays's guard. Asher is looking to work some ground and pound but Mays has wrist control. Asher has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Asher decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mays, up you get! A momentary lapse in concentration from Asher enables Mays to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Asher manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Asher pushes Mays off and scrambles back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Horrible takedown attempt by Asher or perhaps it was just good defense by Mays, which made it look bad.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Asher looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Asher thows a leg kick but Mays checks it and Mays counters with a nice body shot. Mays blocks a head kick by Asher.
As Asher backs away, Mays returns fire with a leg kick that just misses. Mays shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Asher with a lazy takedown attempt and Mays counters with a head kick. Asher has his takedown stuffed and Mays counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Lamont Mays has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roi Asher. Mays tries a head kick but it misses.
Mays lands with a kick to the temple. Asher shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Asher has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mays instigates a clinch. Mays jumps guard.
Mays has an active guard here but Asher has managed to pass into half guard.
Asher is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Asher content to control rather than advance. Mays is trying to control but Asher passes into side control!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mays tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Asher easily slips into full mount! Mays is squirming around, avoiding Asher's attempts to control the action. Mays regains half guard. Asher is looking to take a break and control but Mays is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Asher throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Mays is trying to control but Asher manages to pass to mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Roi Asher will probably get the nod - 10:9. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!
Mays leaves Asher with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Mays has a takedown stuffed. Asher rushes Mays and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Mays lands with a right to the head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Asher takes a knee right on the jaw!
A quick uppercut on the inside from Mays. Mays pulls guard. Mays wants to stand but Asher is controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Asher missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mays has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Asher can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Asher trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Asher not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Mays wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Asher is now in half guard. Asher is keen to just control but Mays is a slippery customer. Asher sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Mays defending well though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Mays avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Asher. Asher is trying to control. Mays wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Mays trying to control here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. A good leg kick by Mays. Asher has closed the distance and engaged Mays in a clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mays landing knees to the head.

Asher takes an elbow to the temple. Mays tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Mays is trying to break free. Mays tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Mays gets control of Asher's arms and successfully pulls guard. Mays will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Asher pushes down on Mays's leg and manages to get into half guard. Asher missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mays looking for submissions off his back. Mays is in trouble now - Asher has advanced to mount! Asher controlling the position easily from mount. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Asher stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Lamont Mays has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Roi Asher is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Asher with a lazy takedown attempt and Mays counters with a head kick. That will keep Asher thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
And that's the end of the fight! Lamont Mays showed his dominance in that final round. I think Asher has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
