Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hidori Shikusami! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Steve Wright! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yuuki Gou and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shikusami gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Shikusami is trying to break the clinch but Wright has him pressed against the cage. Shikusami fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Wright misses with a knee strike.
Wright throws an elbow that misses.
Wright looking to slow down the pace here. Wright creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Shikusami's defenses. Wright misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Wright avoiding damage.
Shikusami is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shikusami content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Wright blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Shikusami has Wright pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Wright manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Wright stalling.
Shikusami blocks the elbow strike.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wright jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Shikusami walks away with a smile on his face. Wright gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Wright tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Shikusami counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Shikusami. Shikusami trying to stand up but can't free himself from Wright's guard. Shikusami trying to control the position from guard on top but Wright is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Wright looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Shikusami stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wright swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wright seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Shikusami wants to control from the top but Wright keeps moving. Shikusami sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Wright's guard. Shikusami prevents Wright from standing back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Wright trying to control but Shikusami postures up.
Wright is trying to stand.
Wright looks gassed! Shikusami is thwarting Wright's attempts to control the position. Shikusami is controlling the pace.
Wright moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Shikusami postures up.
Shikusami trying to control the position from guard on top but Wright is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Wright wants to get back to his feet but Shikusami is in a dominant position and won't allow it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Shikusami lands a couple of decent looking shots. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hidori Shikusami dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Shikusami looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Wright! Wright is working to get back to half guard.
Shikusami wants to control but Wright has made it back to half guard. Nice work. Wright is looking for a sweep. Shikusami is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Wright keeping control of the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shikusami is pressing down on Wright's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wright is holding on for now. Shikusami content to control rather than advance. Shikusami wants to stand up but Wright has a hold of him and won't allow it. Shikusami trying to control from half guard but Wright is working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Wright is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Shikusami's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Shikusami's back! Wright has good solid back control here. Wright doesn't have the hooks in and Shikusami manages to turn into his guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Wright looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Shikusami passes into side control.
Wright tries to improve position but can't. Shikusami passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Wright! Shikusami avoids the attempt from Wright to control. Wright regains half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shikusami thows a huge punch but Wright dodges it nicely.
Shikusami is stalling here. Wright is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Shikusami seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Wright has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Shikusami is looking to regain half guard here but Wright keeps moving and retains side control. Wright taking a breather here. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Shikusami wants to control but Wright postures up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Hidori Shikusami will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Shikusami closes this distance looking for a takedown but Wright circles away. Shikusami shoots in for a double leg but Wright sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Wright tries to clinch up and Shikusami counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Wright is positioning himself well to prevent Shikusami advancing to mount. Wright is defending against the submission attempts here by Shikusami.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Wright desperately trying to maintain half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shikusami trying to advance position but Wright counters by regaining guard. Wright pulls Shikusami in to control the position. Wright throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Hidori Shikusami overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Wright had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Shikusami is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Wright Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Shikusami's back instead. Shikusami manages to escape to a better position under a series of strikes. Wright is now in side control. A lull in the action here as Wright stalls from top position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shikusami is not content to let Wright control the position. Shikusami is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Wright is controlling him well. Wright stands up and we're back to a striking position. Shikusami throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hidori Shikusami is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Shikusami fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Wright, pushing him back against the cage. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Wright. Wright on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hidori Shikusami. That's going to take a lot out of him. Shikusami's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Wright is looking to clinch. Shikusami looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wright is fending him off so far but Shikusami persists. Nope, Wright circles away and we're back to standing. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Wright lands a head kick!

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Hidori Shikusami. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shikusami, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
