PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lynn Valdez (ranked 9328 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Jefferson (ranked 6098 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jack Jefferson was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Lynn Valdez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Jefferson!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Atkins and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jefferson tries a head kick but it misses.
Valdez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Jefferson misses with a two punch combination.
A head kick misses from Jefferson.
Valdez on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Jefferson. Jefferson obviously looking to wear him down.
Jefferson misses the jab.
As Jefferson looks to move away, Valdez throws a big counter combo but Jefferson just gets out of the way.
Jefferson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Valdez shoots in and bounces Jefferson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Jefferson looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jefferson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Valdez defends it easily.

Jefferson looking for subs off his back but Valdez has passed one foot through into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jefferson is looking to control Valdez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jefferson avoid being mounted?
Valdez working over Jefferson with some ground and pound. Jefferson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Valdez takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Jefferson is looking to escape.
Valdez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jefferson's head.
Jefferson on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Jefferson preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Jefferson tries to roll over but Valdez keeps him under control.

Jefferson manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Valdez keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jefferson with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Valdez breaks the clinch.
Valdez takes a kick to the side of the head.
Jefferson takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Valdez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jefferson's waist but Jefferson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Valdez off to one side.
Jack Jefferson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Valdez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jefferson pinned against the cage. Jefferson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Valdez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Jefferson steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Valdez.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lynn Valdez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A solid leg kick lands there for Valdez.
Jefferson lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Valdez backs up against the cage.


It looks like Lynn Valdez has been cut.
Jefferson throws a nice outside leg kick.
Jefferson throws a poor cross that misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jefferson throws a big shot that misses.
Jefferson looks to throw the jab but Valdez is out of range.

and Valdez counters with a three punch combo that has Jefferson backing up. Jefferson nods at Valdez to acknowledge the strikes.
Valdez takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Jefferson lands a nice shot that snaps Valdez's head back.
Some wild striking there from Jefferson.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Jefferson dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Lynn Valdez's cut.
That's time! Valdez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Valdez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jefferson throws out the jab.
Jefferson throws a head kick but Valdez moves out of range.
Jack Jefferson seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Valdez has a takedown stuffed.

Jefferson gets a clinch.

Jefferson manages to break the clinch.
Jefferson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Valdez counters with a series of strikes. Jefferson will be more careful next time no doubt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jefferson throws a sloppy head kick and Valdez moves out of range easily.
And Valdez counters with a quick kick to the body but Jefferson blocks it.

Jefferson scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Jefferson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Jefferson uses his free foot to push down on Valdez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Valdez.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jefferson scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Valdez is rocked!
Jefferson drops a big elbow. That's hurt Valdez! More shots from Jefferson and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
