Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dougie Poynter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Thompson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thompson has chosen Lose Yourself as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dougie Poynter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tommy Thompson! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thompson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Poynter sees it coming and avoids it easily. Poynter looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Poynter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Thompson is just riding it out for now. Poynter eventually gives up the hold. Thompson manages to escape and get back to his feet! Poynter closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Poynter lands in his opponent's guard. Poynter won't allow Thompson to get back to his feet. Thompson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Poynter controls the pace. Thompson wants to stand up but Poynter is controlling him. Poynter could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Thompson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Poynter wanted to stand there but Thompson had control of the position. Thompson wants to stand up but Poynter is controlling him.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. A combination from Thompson does no damage. Thompson looks gassed! The fight moves into the clinch position. Thompson wants to break free but Poynter has control.
Poynter pulls guard successfully.
Poynter is looking for a triangle but Thompson pushes his legs off easily.
Thompson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Poynter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Thompson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Poynter working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Thompson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Thompson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Thompson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thompson wants to stand but Poynter has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Poynter looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Thompson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Thompson stands and steps away. Poynter gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Thompson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Poynter. Thompson tries to bum rush Poynter with a series of wild strikes but Poynter uses good footwork to avoid the assault. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Poynter dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Thompson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Thompson throws a series of punches but Poynter avoids them all with ease. Thompson misses with a wild combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dougie Poynter dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Thompson looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Poynter takes a kick to the side of the head.
It looks like Dougie Poynter has been cut. Thompson throws a nice looking combination but Poynter bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Tommy Thompson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Thompson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Thompson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Poynter gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Thompson gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Poynter.
Thompson is trying to break the clinch but Poynter has him pressed against the ropes. Poynter jumps guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Poynter looking for a sweep. Not yet Poynter, not yet. Poynter trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Poynter has his foot on Thompson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Thompson works his way back into a safe position though. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Thompson stands and steps away. Poynter gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Thompson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Poynter checks a leg kick nicely. Poynter shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Poynter showed some decent athleticism there. Poynter is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Thompson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Poynter. Poynter is looking to take a break and control but Thompson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Poynter stops Thompson from getting back to his feet.

Thompson falls off balance throwing a combination
and Poynter counters with a single leg into guard. Thompson didn't expect that. Poynter trying to control but Thompson is working from the bottom. Poynter stops Thompson from standing up. Poynter wants to pass the guard but Thompson is keeping the position. Poynter prevents Thompson from getting back to his feet. Poynter drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Poynter seems to have locked his on tight now - Thompson screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Poynter, as he picks up the win!
