Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ross Winner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Katsu Ko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ko has chosen National Anthem as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Ross Winner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Katsu Ko!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Paul Tew and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ko clinches with his opponent.
Winner with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Winner breaks from the clinch.
Winner moves in looking to clinch but Ko pushes him off.
Winner could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Ko lands a hook that snaps the head of Winner backwards.
Ko misses with an elbow strike.
Nice body punch from Ko.

Ko escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Winner tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ko swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Winner dodges an elbow strike from Ko.
Winner jumps guard but Ko stands there with Winner around his waist. Winner gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Ko misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Winner wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Winner pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Winner wants to clinch up but Ko keeps it at a distance.

Winner looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Winner is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Ko has managed to free his arm - good work.

Ko is pressing down on Winner's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Winner accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Winner tries to free his leg and advance position but Ko is retaining full guard.
Ko is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Winner wants to get up but he can't break Ko's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Winner gets to his feet. Ko looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Winner closes the distance and clinches.

Ko misses with a knee strike.
A short right from Ko on the inside.
A nice right hand lands inside from Winner.
Winner lands a body shot in the clinch.

Winner pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Winner moves into the clinch.
Ko wants to break the clinch but can't.
Ko wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Ko throws an elbow that misses.
Winner digs a right hand underneath Ko's ribcage. Ko let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Winner lands an elbow inside.
Ko lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Winner escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ko scores with a spinning back kick!
Winner misses the shot to the body.
Winner tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ko swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Ko holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

and Ko counters by moving into the clinch.
Ko wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Winner has him pressed against the cage.

Winner decides to pull guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Winner is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ko is controlling him.

Ko is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Winner wriggles free and stands up.

and Ko holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
A short right from Ko on the inside.
Winner cracks Ko with a nice body shot.
Winner throws a punch but it's blocked by Ko.

Ko pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The fight stays on the outside here - Winner looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ko tries to bum rush Winner with a series of wild strikes but Winner uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ross Winner will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Winner misses with a takedown attempt - Ko sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Winner will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Winner ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ko moves away.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Winner lunges at Ko with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Ko's hand.
Winner fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ko tries a head kick but it misses.
Winner steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Ko. That one must have hurt.
Ko wants to clinch up but Winner keeps it at a distance.

Ross Winner is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Winner blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Winner drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ko gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Ko digs a right hand into Winner's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Winner's gas tank.

Ross Winner is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Winner, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
