PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bam OHarry (ranked 6512 p4p, 514 weight class) and Logan Reid (ranked 7544 p4p, 545 weight class). Reid has chosen Way Down We Go as his entrance music. The key to victory for Bam OHarry has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bam OHarry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Logan Reid!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from OHarry misses its intended target.
OHarry throws a body shot but no joy.
OHarry swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Reid counters with a shoot takedown. OHarry fights it but they end up in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reid wants to control from the top but OHarry keeps moving.
Reid working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Reid passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The strikes coming from Reid are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Reid tries to move to mount but OHarry blocks the move with his legs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
OHarry is working to avoid the ground and pound but Reid connects with a decent elbow.
Reid misses with the ground and pound.
OHarry sneaks back into half guard.

Reid winds up and cracks OHarry with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Reid thows a huge punch but OHarry dodges it nicely.
OHarry slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
OHarry is trying to control the position from the bottom.
OHarry wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Reid drops back, looking for a kneebar! OHarry looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. OHarry looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from OHarry!

OHarry lands an elbow.

OHarry tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
OHarry landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
OHarry postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
OHarry scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Reid to see if he's OK.
Reid prevents OHarry from improving position.
Reid struggling a bit here.

OHarry is trying to get an arm triangle but Reid is defending well.
Reid really doesn't want to stay on the ground with OHarry. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
What's Reid going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.

Reid regains half guard, as OHarry was trying to land strikes.
OHarry stops Reid from getting back to his feet.
OHarry looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
OHarry is looking to take a break and control but Reid is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
OHarry has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

OHarry is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Reid defends it well.
Reid keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
We've been informed that Reid has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Reid is trying to get back to full guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. OHarry connects with a nice short shot to Reid's temple.
Reid is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
OHarry drops an elbow to the side of Reid's head.
OHarry is keen to just control but Reid is a slippery customer.
OHarry perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reid can do anything to dispel that myth.
OHarry thows a huge punch but Reid dodges it nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
OHarry lands with a punch from half guard.
OHarry thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
OHarry wants to take a breather but Reid is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Reid fails to land the takedown.

A little feinted left hand from OHarry on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Reid dives in and scores a takedown into OHarry's guard.
Reid is looking to work some ground and pound but OHarry has wrist control.

OHarry manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Reid manages to get himself to full guard.

OHarry is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Reid can do to turn this around?

Reid closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. OHarry did well to prevent Reid getting side control.
Reid is keen to just control but OHarry is a slippery customer.

Reid postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bam OHarry overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
OHarry is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

OHarry had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Reid defends it easily.
OHarry controls Reid momentarily but Reid frees himself.
Reid trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but OHarry manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Reid holds on and takes a little breather.

OHarry drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and OHarry jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

OHarry is in close to Reid's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Reid utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Reid shoots in for a takedown but OHarry shows good takedown defense.
Logan Reid is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Reid shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. OHarry defends it nicely.
OHarry appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
A left and a right from OHarry both land. Nice combination.

Reid gets in close and instigates a clinch.

OHarry is fighting off a takedown attempt but Reid is just too persistent for him and manages to trip OHarry to the mat. OHarry regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

The fighters are working up against the cage. OHarry manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

OHarry turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
OHarry is working Reid over with some ground and pound from side control.
Reid tries to bench press OHarry off him but OHarry keeps the position.
OHarry postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
OHarry misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
OHarry in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
OHarry trying to control the action but Reid is working from the bottom.
Reid takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

OHarry throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
OHarry wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reid keeps working.
Reid is looking for a sweep.

OHarry swings around for an armbar but Reid sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into OHarry's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Reid wants to control from the top but OHarry keeps moving.
Reid working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
OHarry trying to keep a closed guard but Reid is proving a slippery customer.
Reid scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now OHarry is on top in guard.

OHarry is looking to work some ground and pound but Reid has wrist control.

OHarry postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Reid is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of OHarry, into his guard.

OHarry looking to hit a scissor sweep but Reid is one step ahead there.
OHarry throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Reid wants to control from the top but OHarry keeps moving.
Reid missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
OHarry is trying to keep Reid in close.
OHarry tries to land a sweep but no joy.

OHarry seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

OHarry manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Reid tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but OHarry paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Reid shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Reid was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Logan Reid has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bam OHarry is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Reid lands a few punches from side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bam OHarry.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for OHarry, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
