Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hunter Melton (ranked 4430 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Cruz (ranked 9310 p4p, 0 weight class). Mark Cruz is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hunter Melton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mark Cruz! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Kavanagh and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Melton lands with an overhand left. Oooh a lovely combination from Melton sends Cruz down but not out. Melton dives into side control looking to finish.
Cruz is rocked!
It looks like Mark Cruz has been cut. Melton working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Cruz is still in real trouble! Can Melton finish him? Melton tries to score with some ground and pound. Cruz controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Melton in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Cruz dodges the ground and pound from Melton. The ground and pound from Melton seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Cruz seems to have recovered his senses. Cruz managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Melton.
Cruz is looking to get back to his feet here but Melton is keeping cool and he's managed to take Cruz's back. Melton not allowing Cruz to control his hands.
That's one minute gone in the round. Melton struggling to keep hold of the position.
Melton throws strikes from the back but Cruz rolls nicely and manages to end up in full guard. Nice work by Cruz. Melton trying to control the position from guard on top but Cruz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Melton stops Cruz from standing up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Cruz preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Melton throws a strike but Cruz rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Melton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Cruz tries to stand but Melton is controlling from the bottom. Melton is looking to stand up but Cruz isn't so interested in that idea. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. A lazy left from Melton finds it's target. A low kick from Melton misses and Cruz holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Cruz tries to land a knee to the head but Melton blocks with his arms.

Melton lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Melton wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Cruz has him pressed against the cage. Melton throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. A head punch blocked on the inside by Cruz. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Melton. Cruz using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Melton taking a breather. Melton breaks from the clinch.
Melton digs a good hook to Cruz's body.
Cruz looks winded! Melton stuns Cruz with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Cruz takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Melton ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Melton changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. A low kick from Melton misses and Cruz holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Cruz's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Cruz is trying to stall.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Melton. Melton lands with a short head shot on the inside. Melton misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Melton tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Cruz tries to land a knee to the head but Melton blocks with his arms.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Cruz. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hunter Melton dominated that round. The cut man is working on Mark Cruz's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Melton lands a jab. Melton getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Melton scores with a hook. Melton with a body punch. A glancing blow. Melton digs a good body shot into Cruz's ribs. Melton scores with a punch to the head. and Melton counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Cruz! He's just covering up as Melton starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hunter Melton! An out of breath Hunter Melton thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
