Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tod Valenzuela!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Colt Irvine!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Taro Takaoka and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Valenzuela enables Irvine to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Valenzuela manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Irvine has eaten all the pies!
Irvine controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Valenzuela knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Irvine on the ground.

Irvine is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Valenzuela is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Valenzuela has escaped and now he's on top!


Valenzuela postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Irvine is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Valenzuela, into his guard.

Irvine is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Irvine trying to stand up but can't free himself from Valenzuela's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Valenzuela is trying to control the position but Irvine postures up.
Irvine sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Valenzuela really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Irvine stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Valenzuela swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Irvine's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Irvine stays in close to Valenzuela's body and controls the position.
Irvine sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Valenzuela's guard.

Irvine is looking for a kimura but Valenzuela is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Irvine to get the leverage.
Irvine winds up and cracks Valenzuela with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Irvine looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Irvine is taking a breather. Valenzuela says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Irvine lands a nice short elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Irvine wants to pass the guard but Valenzuela is defending well.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Valenzuela has hold of Irvine's hands but Irvine slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Irvine has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Irvine is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
It looks like Irvine is going to stand back up.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Irvine is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Irvine performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Colt Irvine dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Irvine shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Irvine showed some decent athleticism there.
Irvine is taking a breather. Valenzuela says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Irvine takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Irvine seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Irvine is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Valenzuela is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Irvine scores with a couple of nice shots.


Valenzuela is rocked!
Irvine content to control rather than advance.
Oh Valenzuela is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Irvine is continuing to stall.
Irvine moves into full mount! Valenzuela won't be happy about that!

Irvine looking to secure an arm triangle but Valenzuela defends it well.
Irvine sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Valenzuela tries to reverse the position but Irvine maintains control.

Irvine is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Valenzuela can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Irvine with shots to the head and body - Valenzuela looks very uncomfortable down there.
Irvine drops a big elbow. That's hurt Valenzuela! More shots from Irvine and the ref steps in! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Colt Irvine!
