Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike Rutherford (ranked 2670 p4p, 267 weight class) and Shlomo Goldberg (ranked 3405 p4p, 343 weight class). Rutherford comes to the cage accompanied by Genesis - Deep in the Motherlode. The crowd seem to be enjoying Goldberg's choice of entrance music: Oy vei. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goldberg throws a body shot but no joy.
Rutherford appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Rutherford scores with a nice strike.
Rutherford works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
A big right from Rutherford misses.
Mike Rutherford seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rutherford throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Goldberg counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rutherford won't be happy with that.
Rutherford is not content to let Goldberg control the position.
Goldberg swings around for an armbar but Rutherford sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Goldberg's guard.

Goldberg felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Rutherford drops back looking for a leg! Goldberg is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Goldberg manages to kick Rutherford off! Rutherford jumps back into Goldberg's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Rutherford has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Goldberg works to full guard.

Rutherford is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Rutherford tries to clinch there but Goldberg circles away.

Rutherford throws a hook to the side of Goldberg's head but Goldberg sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
That kick from Rutherford tenderised Goldberg's leg. Goldberg is trying to keep his angry face on.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Goldberg walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Rutherford lands a nice shot that snaps Goldberg's head back.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Goldberg throws a sloppy strike and Rutherford has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Goldberg is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Rutherford!
