Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Velaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hadley Doane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Doane has chosen Step Up- Drowning Pool as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paul Velaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hadley Doane!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Velaz with that takedown attempt.
Velaz takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Doane misses with a body kick.
Doane rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Velaz moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Doane scores with a jab. Velaz acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Velaz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
No joy there for Doane, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Nice takedown defense from Doane. No joy for Velaz on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Velaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Velaz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Doane throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Velaz shoots in looking for a takedown. Doane tries to sprawl out of it but Velaz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Doane manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Velaz shoots in but no luck this time.
Doane should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Doane scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Velaz is refusing to be controlled, as Doane sits in half guard.
Velaz tries to get to full guard but Doane has control of the leg.
Doane perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Velaz is staying active underneath Doane, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Doane lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Doane.

Hadley Doane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Doane lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Doane tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Velaz. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Velaz checks a leg kick.
Doane bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Velaz's head.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Doane takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Velaz is looking to improve his position.
Velaz on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Doane passes the guard and advances to mount!

Velaz is bucking up trying to escape but Doane cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Doane landing punches.
Velaz really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Doane is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Velaz can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Doane is working for a guillotine from mount but Velaz frees his head quite easily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Doane has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Doane is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Velaz throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Doane escapes and throws Velaz's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Velaz takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Velaz is looking for a sweep.
Velaz on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Velaz tries to get out of the position.

Velaz is working to avoid the ground and pound but Doane connects with a decent elbow.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Doane rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Velaz moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Velaz is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Velaz is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Hadley Doane has got the better of the ground game so far.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Doane is on top in guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Velaz looking for a sweep. Not yet Velaz, not yet.
Velaz throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hadley Doane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Doane stalks Velaz and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Velaz's face. Velaz staggers backwards, shaken.

Velaz is wriggling around trying to escape.
Velaz tries to lock up and control but Doane gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Doane with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Doane avoids the attempt from Velaz to control.
Velaz sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Doane is nestled in close to Velaz, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Doane takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Doane connects with a nice short shot to Velaz's temple.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Doane moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Velaz shoots in for a double leg but Doane sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Doane throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Velaz on the side of the head.
Paul Velaz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hadley Doane seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Velaz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Doane but Doane pushes him off and we're back to square one.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Doane wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Hadley Doane is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Hadley Doane comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Doane has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
