PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Arman Shaker (ranked 2323 p4p, 303 weight class) and Luke Rockstar (ranked 6097 p4p, 608 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Arman Shaker!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luke Rockstar!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Andrew Berry and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shaker on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Shaker closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rockstar to the mat! Rockstar manages to get full guard.
Rockstar is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Shaker trying to control the position from guard on top but Rockstar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Shaker passes Rockstar's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Rockstar is looking to get back to full guard here but Shaker has managed to pass to side control instead.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Rockstar manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rockstar is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Shaker is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Shaker with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Shaker lands strikes from half guard.

Rockstar looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Shaker pushes past his half guard into mount!
Rockstar is looking to get to half guard.
Shaker controlling from the full mount.

Poor strikes thrown by Shaker there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Rockstar can't escape the position.
Shaker can't control as he wanted to and Rockstar manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
Shaker prevents Rockstar from standing back up.
Rockstar is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Shaker controlling the action here.

Rockstar is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Shaker pulls his head out easily.
Rockstar has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shaker is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rockstar wants to get back to full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Shaker lands a head kick. Rockstar smiles back at him and beckons him forward.


It looks like Luke Rockstar has been cut.
Rockstar's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Shaker connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Rockstar scrambles back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A big right from Rockstar misses.
Shaker uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rockstar.
Shaker chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Rockstar moves out of range of the body kick.
Nice defenses there by Rockstar.
Rockstar feints a counter leg kick.
Shaker fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Rockstar is out of range.

Shaker looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Rockstar!
Rockstar bucks up and tries to throw Shaker off but instead Shaker has got his back!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Shaker trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Rockstar doesn't escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shaker tries to get the hooks in deep but Rockstar pushed the leg off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Shaker scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Rockstar loads up on a big right hand but Shaker slips the punch.
Shaker scores with a leg kick.
Rockstar misses with the body kick
and Shaker counters with an inside leg kick.
Rockstar tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Shaker was well out of range. Poor timing from Rockstar.
Shaker looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Shaker fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Rockstar.
Rockstar pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Rockstar connects with a nice looking jab.
Shaker throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Rockstar motions for Shaker to come forward. Rockstar throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Shaker cracks the inside of Rockstar's front leg.
Shaker throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Rockstar looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Shaker smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Shaker walks into a straight right hand from Rockstar.
Rockstar goes for a double leg but Shaker avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Shaker continues to drive forward.
Rockstar has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Shaker.
Rockstar throws the left hand but Shaker avoids the punch easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rockstar gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Shaker sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Shaker trying to move into half guard but instead Rockstar has managed to sweep!

Shaker is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Shaker looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Shaker throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shaker content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Rockstar is looking to improve his position.
Shaker thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rockstar's head.
Still in half guard, Shaker seems content to control.
Shaker seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rockstar does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Rockstar wants to sweep but Shaker has passed to side control!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Rockstar's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Rockstar manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rockstar controlling the pace.
Shaker is trying to get back to full guard.
Shaker holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Shaker has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rockstar is working away from the top position though.

Shaker is refusing to be controlled, as Rockstar sits in half guard.
Shaker gets full guard.
Rockstar working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Shaker's head.
Rockstar pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shaker is keeping the position for now.
Rockstar is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Shaker is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rockstar throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Shaker moves out of range as Rockstar throws a body kick.
Rockstar connects with a nice looking jab.
Rockstar shoots and misses
and Shaker counters with a stiff right hand.
Nice defenses there by Shaker.
Rockstar misses with a body kick.
Shaker ducks under a wild hook from Rockstar.
Shaker throws a big counter combination but Rockstar scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Shaker feints and as Rockstar raises his hands in defense, Shaker changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rockstar trying to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rockstar is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Shaker sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Rockstar doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Shaker paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Rockstar - great work!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Luke Rockstar!
