Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Joseph Jones and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James throws a low kick but it's checked well by Rivers.

James drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rivers wants to get back to his feet.
James tries to score with some ground and pound. Rivers controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
James wants to stand but Rivers is controlling his arm.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A lull in the action here as James stalls from top position.

Rivers pushes James away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, James gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
James cracks Rivers with a big elbow.


It looks like Rocco Rivers has been cut.

James bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Rivers regains half guard there - taking advantage of James's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Rivers could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Rivers might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
James is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rivers looking to hit a scissor sweep but James is one step ahead there.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

James escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for James. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Rivers slips a jab and a cross from James.
Rivers throws a wild body kick that James sees coming a mile off.

James fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Rivers to the ground. James is now in Rivers's guard.
Rivers is pulling down on James's head. It's preventing any offense from James, at least for the moment.

Rivers is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
James must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Rivers continues to stall.
Rivers controls James momentarily but James frees himself.
Rivers is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rivers swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

James has managed to clinch.
James slowing the pace effectively.

James gets control of Rivers's arms and successfully pulls guard. James will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
James is wriggling around but Rivers manages to pass to half guard.

Rivers thows a huge punch but James dodges it nicely.

James is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Rivers can't fight it off and eventually James manages to take the fight to the floor. Rivers looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rocco Rivers.
Well James has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
