Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pablo Walter (ranked 6406 p4p, 0 weight class) and Viggo Hansen (ranked 9173 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pablo Walter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Viggo Hansen! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Walter gets caught napping as Hansen dives in and scores a takedown. Walter manages to retain guard. Walter is adopting a defensive guard. Walter's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Hansen gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Hansen shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Walter napping and manages to drive through into side control! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Walter is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hansen's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Walter moves into full guard.
Walter manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Walter pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Hansen darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Walter makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Hansen looks winded!
That's one minute gone in the round. Hansen fails in his attempt to clinch. Walter pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hansen throws a combination. Walter tries to block but a couple of punches get through. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Walter. Hansen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Walter paws at him with a jab and circles away. Walter closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hansen quickly recovers to half guard. Hansen is trying to escape back to his feet but Walter uses the scramble to pass into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hansen taking punishment in the form of punches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. An elbow from Walter crashes against the mat.
Walter stands up and we're back to a striking position. Walter throws a sloppy head kick and Hansen moves out of range easily. Hansen is clearly looking to counter with head kicks. Hansen tries to sprawl but Walter drives through with a takedown into half guard. Hansen has hold of Walter's hands but Walter slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Walter winds up and cracks Hansen with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Walter landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Walter will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Walter drops an elbow to the side of Hansen's head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Walter throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Walter stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Walter fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hansen to the ground. Walter is now in Hansen's guard. Hansen is working an open guard so Walter takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. A head kick from Walter lands but Hansen takes it in his stride. Walter closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hansen quickly recovers to half guard. Hansen scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Walter manages to mount him!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Walter takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. BOOM! Walter connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Walter has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Walter content just to control the position here. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The referee warns Hansen that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Pablo Walter dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Walter throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hansen's waist but Hansen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Walter off to one side. Walter gets the takedown into side control. Walter scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Hansen to see if he's OK. Walter lands an elbow. Walter lands a nice forearm strike. Hansen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Walter. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Walter stands up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Walter shoots for a double leg takedown but Hansen sprawls well. He's pushed Walter's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Walter is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hansen can do to turn this around? Excellent takedown into side control there by Walter. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hansen taking a bit of punishment here - Walter scoring with strikes. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Walter working the ground and pound. Walter stands up. Walter shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Walter is looking to work some ground and pound but Hansen has wrist control. Walter throws a big elbow that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hansen avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Walter throwing strikes from guard but Hansen blocks nicely. Walter throwing strikes from guard but Hansen blocks nicely. Walter chips away with some ground and pound. Walter working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hansen's head.

Walter stands up over Hansen, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Walter is working Hansen over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Walter gets to his feet. Hansen looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Walter looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hansen is fending him off so far but Walter persists. Nope, Hansen circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pablo Walter. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hansen fails in his attempt to clinch. Walter lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Walter misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hansen is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Walter. Walter throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Hansen is rocked! Hansen gets hit by the mother of all head kicks and drops to the canvas in a crumpled heap! Woooow, the Internet is going to be talking about this one for weeks!
