The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Pettis drives through and clinches with Mendes against the cage.

Pettis has picked Mendes up - he's going for a ride! Pettis dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Mendes is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pettis pulls his head out easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pettis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Mendes has a hand on Pettis's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Pettis takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Pettis's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Pettis keeps control of the position as Mendes tries to break free.

Mendes is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Pettis gets his way!
Pettis really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Mendes.

Mendes trying to control the position but Pettis manages to sink in the hooks.
