And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mcwilliams scores with a jab to the body.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Mcwilliams breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Froehling shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mcwilliams but Mcwilliams pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mcwilliams fails with a takedown attempt.
Mcwilliams leaves Froehling with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mcwilliams shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Froehling manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Froehling wants to get back to his feet but Mcwilliams passes into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Froehling is looking to control Mcwilliams's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Froehling avoid being mounted?
Mcwilliams seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Froehling kicks Mcwilliams off and gets back to his feet.
Froehling shoots in looking for a takedown but Mcwilliams manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Froehling's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Fearghal Mcwilliams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Froehling.

Froehling has taken the fight to the clinch.

Mcwilliams breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mcwilliams darts in looking for a takedown but Froehling gets double underhooks and turns Mcwilliams into the cage.

Froehling tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mcwilliams sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Froehling somewhat.
Mcwilliams really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mcwilliams looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Froehling is looking to clinch.
A counter left hand to the body from Mcwilliams misses its target.
Mcwilliams goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Froehling shoots in looking for a takedown but Mcwilliams manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Froehling's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Froehling dives in and grabs Mcwilliams's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mcwilliams pushes down on Froehling's head and hops out.

Froehling shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mcwilliams defends it nicely.
Mcwilliams attempts a counter takedown but Froehling avoids it well and moves away.
Mcwilliams slaps away a takedown attempt from Froehling, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Froehling tries to pull guard but Mcwilliams holds him up against the cage and eventually Froehling drops back down to his feet.

Mcwilliams pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mcwilliams keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Mcwilliams has closed the distance and engaged Froehling in a clinch.

Mcwilliams manages to break the clinch.

Mcwilliams rushes Froehling and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mcwilliams content to slow the pace in the clinch.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Froehling fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Mcwilliams shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mcwilliams was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Mcwilliams looks up at the clock and then as Froehling takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Mcwilliams smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Froehling tries to improve position but can't.
Mcwilliams in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mcwilliams is looking to take a break and control but Froehling is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Mcwilliams wants to control but Froehling is keeping him busy.

Mcwilliams tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Mcwilliams seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Froehling for as long as he can get away with.

Mcwilliams goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Froehling rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Mcwilliams's guard! Nice work there by Froehling!

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Fearghal Mcwilliams overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Froehling pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mcwilliams is keeping the position for now.
Mcwilliams is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Froehling tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mcwilliams defends well and Froehling ends up having to push Mcwilliams into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Fearghal Mcwilliams is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Froehling takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Froehling ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Froehling breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Froehling tries to close the distance and clinch but Mcwilliams swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Froehling moves into range and clinches up with Mcwilliams.
Froehling is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mcwilliams pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Mcwilliams breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mcwilliams closes the distance and clinches up with Froehling, looking for a takedown. Mcwilliams pushes Froehling against the cage but Froehling circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Mcwilliams misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Froehling gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Mcwilliams counters with a thumping low kick.

Mcwilliams's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Froehling tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Mcwilliams just stands there and leans against the cage.

Mcwilliams throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Crunch! Mcwilliams slams his shin into Froehling's torso.
Mcwilliams throws a quick inside leg kick.
Fearghal Mcwilliams is winning the standup battle so far.
A head kick from Mcwilliams lands but Froehling takes it in his stride.
Mcwilliams throws a sloppy head kick and Froehling moves out of range easily.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Mcwilliams, right into the meat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Froehling closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mcwilliams circles away.

Mcwilliams lands a damaging elbow.

Well Mcwilliams has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
