Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimbo Monsoon (ranked 1824 p4p, 216 weight class) and Scott John (ranked 1218 p4p, 142 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jimbo Monsoon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Scott John!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Taro Takaoka and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
John shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Monsoon fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. John sprawls well initially but Monsoon persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Monsoon seems to be working for a kimura but John defends the submission attempt.
We've been hearing that Monsoon has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
John avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Monsoon.
Monsoon not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Monsoon missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
John blocking the ground and pound attempt from Monsoon.
Monsoon thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Monsoon tries to pass to full mount but John defends it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Monsoon thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed John's head.
Monsoon is thwarting John's attempts to control the position.
John moves into full guard.

John seems keen to control Monsoon's posture.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
John looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

John pulls Monsoon in close to his closed guard and prevents Monsoon from doing any damage or advancing position.
Monsoon in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Monsoon stands up over John, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

John controls Monsoon momentarily but Monsoon frees himself.
Monsoon throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Monsoon scoring with some ground and pound.
Monsoon throws a big elbow that misses.

Monsoon thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Monsoon works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Monsoon with the ground and pound but John uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Monsoon throws a big right hand that misses.
Monsoon postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! John covers up, he's hurt! Monsoon keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Monsoon and the ref steps in to end the fight! Monsoon can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jimbo Monsoon!
Jimbo Monsoon decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
