Day comes to the cage accompanied by Last minute - Great day to choke you out. Gary Day has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Gary Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jay Smith!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Marco Blurström and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Day misses the shot to the body.
Smith throws a body shot but no joy.
Day throws a shot from downtown. Smith moves away and avoids it.

Smith shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Day's guard.
Smith advances to half guard.

Day looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Day looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Smith throwing shots but Day is blocking nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Day is not content to let Smith control the position.

Day is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Smith pulls his head out easily.
Smith missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Day is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Day with the active half guard here but Smith passes nicely into side control.
Smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Smith tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith throwing strikes but Day manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
You can see the frustration on Smith's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Smith manages to work his way to half guard, despite Day's best efforts.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith trying to control from the bottom.
Day wants to free his trapped foot but Smith is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Smith is in trouble now - Day has advanced to mount!
Smith is in all sorts of trouble here.
Day lands a heavy elbow.
Day landing strikes from the mount.
Smith is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Smith is trying desperately to improve position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Day is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Smith can't stay in a position like this for much longer.


Smith is rocked!
Day definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
A big strike lands for Day! That's really hurt Smith and he's turned his back - Day keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Day jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gary Day!
A relieved looking Gary Day thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
