Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Alves (ranked 8444 p4p, 550 weight class) and Holt Dennis (ranked 9514 p4p, 599 weight class). Alves's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Haikaiss - Rap Lord. Fernando Alves has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Holt Dennis!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dennis lands a nice shot to the body.

Dennis changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Alves looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
A lull in the action here as Dennis stalls from top position.

Alves is trying to improve his position.

Dennis is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Alves has escaped the position, nice work there.
Alves is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Iron Fist Gym, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Dennis tries to move into full mount but can't pass Alves's legs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dennis slows the pace down.

You can see the frustration on Alves's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Dennis is looking to take a break and control but Alves is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Alves is trying to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dennis is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Alves's shoulder. That is not cool.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
A control attempt from Alves but he's now mounted!

Alves really wants to buck Dennis off and get back to his feet.
Alves is squirming around, avoiding Dennis's attempts to control the action.
Alves is trying to escape the mount.

Dennis can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Alves is looking to escape.
Alves is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Dennis fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Alves is squirming around, avoiding Dennis's attempts to control the action.
Alves is looking to improve his position but Dennis isn't that keen on the idea.
Alves holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Dennis tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Dennis jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Alves manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Dennis passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Alves!

Dennis takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dennis lands with a nice combination. Alves backs away looking to recover.

Dennis manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Alves on his heels. He'll look to pass Alves's guard now, I'm sure.

Alves has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Dennis is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Dennis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Dennis takes the fight into the clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dennis connects with a nasty looking knee right to Alves's face.

Dennis gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Dennis is looking to advance position but Alves won't allow it.
Alves has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dennis is working away from the top position though.
Holt Dennis has got the better of the ground game so far.

Alves looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Alves wants to control but Dennis is keeping busy.
Dennis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Dennis is looking to advance position but Alves won't allow it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Dennis in particular looking to stall.
Alves trying to hold on to Dennis's head to control him but Dennis postures up.
Dennis wants to take a breather but Alves is having none of it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Alves works his way to full guard. Good work.
Dennis trying to control the position from guard on top but Alves is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Alves takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Dennis decides to stand back up. Dennis steps back and let's Alves get back to his feet.

Dennis shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Alves is refusing to be controlled, as Dennis sits in half guard.
Dennis not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Dennis connects with a nice short shot to Alves's temple.

Alves has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dennis is working away from the top position though.
Alves is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Dennis jumps into side control!
Dennis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alves keeps working.
Alves tries to bench press Dennis off him but Dennis keeps the position.
Alves wants to control but Dennis postures up.

Dennis stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Fernando Alves is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Dennis throws a head kick that half lands.

Alves tries to keep at a distance but Dennis has taken the fight into the clinch.
Alves wants to take the fight to the mat but Dennis manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Holt Dennis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Alves's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Dennis tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Dennis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Well Dennis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
