PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jewel Guerra (ranked 8150 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henry Belenger (ranked 5788 p4p, 0 weight class). Henry Belenger will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jewel Guerra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Henry Belenger!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belenger throws the left hand but Guerra avoids the punch easily.
Belenger pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Belenger throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Guerra was covering up waiting for the punch and Belenger finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Guerra has control of Belenger's left arm, preventing Belenger from doing any damage.
Belenger must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Belenger wants to control from the top but Guerra keeps moving.
Belenger trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Guerra manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Guerra not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Guerra wanted to stand there but Belenger had control of the position.
Guerra could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Belenger is trying to control the position but Guerra postures up.
Guerra would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Guerra throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Belenger works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Guerra fails with a takedown attempt.
Belenger changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Henry Belenger seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Belenger wants to clinch

and Guerra counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Guerra.
Guerra throws a big elbow that misses.
Guerra lands a couple of elbows.
Belenger wants to control the position but Guerra says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Guerra blocks the strikes from Belenger.
Guerra working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Guerra is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Belenger has managed to free his arm - good work.

Belenger trying to hold on to Guerra's head to control him but Guerra postures up.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Belenger checks a leg kick.

Belenger gets a clinch.
Guerra is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Belenger can do to turn this around?
Belenger tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Guerra avoids it.

Guerra might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Guerra seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Guerra stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Belenger to get to his feet.

Belenger shoots in and gets a takedown into Guerra's guard.

Guerra continues to stall.
Belenger won't allow Guerra to sweep him here.

Belenger looking to sit in guard and control but Guerra gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Belenger is breathing heavily.
Guerra chips away with some ground and pound.

Guerra with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Guerra is stalling in the full guard.

Guerra cracks Belenger with a solid left hand.

Belenger wants to control but Guerra passes easily into half guard.
Guerra is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Guerra is working for a submission of some sort.

Guerra is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Belenger doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Guerra.
Guerra scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Guerra is nestled in close to Belenger, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Guerra looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Belenger is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Belenger moves in looking to clinch but Guerra pushes him off.

Belenger tightens his grip and picks Guerra up, before dumping him to the ground. Guerra manages to land in guard.

Belenger wants to control from the top but Guerra keeps moving.
Guerra is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Guerra can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Belenger controls the pace.
Guerra has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Belenger wants to control from the top but Guerra keeps moving.
Belenger tries to free his leg and advance position but Guerra is retaining full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Guerra shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Guerra showed some decent athleticism there.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Guerra connects with a nice short shot to Belenger's temple.
Guerra wants to stand up but Belenger is controlling the position.

Guerra decides to return to a standing position.
Jewel Guerra is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Belenger takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Guerra is looking to score with low kicks.
Guerra moves out of range of the body kick from Belenger.

Belenger closes the distance and clinches.
Belenger presses Guerra against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Belenger wants to break the clinch but can't.

Belenger successfully pulls guard.
Guerra lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Belenger looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Guerra lands a couple of digs.
Guerra controlling from the top position.
Guerra stands up over Belenger, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Guerra stands up and waves to Belenger to follow him.
A low kick from Belenger is predictable there

and Guerra decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Belenger's guard.
Belenger wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Guerra manages to pass to side control.

Guerra is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Guerra is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Belenger sees it coming and defends easily.

Belenger pushes Guerra off, looking to escape but Guerra dives into side control. He's locked up a kimura now - that was fast! He's cranking on it and Belenger is forced to tap! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jewel Guerra!
