The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Sutphin tries for a takedown but Gauthier circles away easily and Gauthier counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Gauthier. Gauthier has picked Sutphin up - he's going for a ride! Gauthier dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Sutphin looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Sutphin actively working from the bottom here. Gauthier with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Sutphin wants to improve his position but Gauthier is controlling well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sutphin tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Gauthier has advanced to mount. Uh oh. That's one minute gone in the round. Sutphin is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Sutphin tries to reverse the position but Gauthier maintains control. Gauthier takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Sutphin is wriggling around trying to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gauthier can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Sutphin is looking to escape. Gauthier avoids the attempt from Sutphin to control. Gauthier has hold of Sutphin's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Sutphin manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Gauthier works his way to his opponent's back.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Gauthier gets his hands free as Sutphin looks to control. Sutphin tries to escape the position.
Sutphin looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Gauthier has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Sutphin is defending well but eventually Gauthier manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Sutphin has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
