PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sub Man (ranked 7472 p4p, 505 weight class) and Django Reid (ranked 6368 p4p, 466 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Reid's choice of entrance music: Untouchable. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sub Man! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Django Reid! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Thiago Cunha and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Man fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Reid lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Reid gets caught flat footed, as Man shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Reid has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Man off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Man fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Man shoots in looking for a takedown but Reid manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Man's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Reid tries to counter by closing the distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sub Man. That's going to take a lot out of him. Man looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Reid is fending him off so far but Man persists. Nope, Reid circles away and we're back to standing. Man closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Reid did well to prevent Man getting side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Man sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Reid defending well though. Man prevents Reid from standing back up.
Man scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Man seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Man passes the guard and advances to mount!
That's one minute gone in the round. Man takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Man lands a big shot there that rocks Reid but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Reid really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Man. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Man cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Man landing strikes, looking to finish! Man controlling the pace for now. Man postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Reid looks a forlorn figure.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Man content just to control the position here. Man scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Reid?

This has been an exciting period of action! Reid taking shots to the head. Man controlling the pace for now. Man has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Man connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Man working away from the top, dropping strikes. Man controlling from mount. Man fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Man is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Reid is surviving well by controlling Man's body position as best he can. Reid has left one of his arms exposed and Man doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Reid screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Sub Man! Sub Man seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
