The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Thepins tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mayer smiles and moves away.
Mayer shoots for a double leg takedown but Thepins sprawls well. He's pushed Mayer's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Thepins throws out a leg kick but Mayer moves out of range and Thepins only half commits.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Thepins tries to lock up and control but Mayer gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mayer is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Thepins can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Thepins is desperately trying to improve his position but Mayer has a good base and remains in mount.

Thepins keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Thepins tries to hold on but Mayer postures up.
The referee warns Thepins that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Mayer swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Thepins is now in Mayer's guard. A big mistake from Mayer there, giving up the dominant position!
Thepins is looking to pass into half guard but Mayer pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Mayer is in guard.


Thepins looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Mayer passes into half guard.
Mayer is nestled in close to Thepins, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mayer throwing shots but Thepins is blocking nicely.
Thepins holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Mayer tries to stand and escape but Thepins is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Thepins counters with a crisp one two that drops Mayer! Thepins thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Mayer to his feet! Mayer is in big trouble!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Thepins trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

Scot Thepins's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Scot Thepins's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
