Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Daniel Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Milton Friedman! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Peter Branson and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Friedman shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Friedman was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Friedman scoring with punches and elbows. Silva is looking for a sweep. Friedman is looking to take a break and control but Silva is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Friedman controlling the position. Friedman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Friedman is chipping away with strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Friedman cracks Silva with a big right hand but Silva just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Silva definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Friedman scores with a couple of short elbows. Silva takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
That's one minute gone in the round. Friedman scores with punches from side control. Friedman in side control lands a decent elbow. Silva takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Silva is rocked! Silva is looking to reverse the position. Friedman goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Silva rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Friedman's guard! Nice work there by Silva! Friedman wants to sweep but no luck. Silva looking to pass the guard. Silva postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Friedman tries to land a sweep but no joy. Friedman throws a nice elbow from the bottom. Silva tries to free his leg and advance position but Friedman is retaining full guard. Friedman has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Blood Warrior. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva preventing the sweep. Friedman is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Silva defends well. Friedman keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully. Friedman pulls Silva in to control the position. Silva won't allow Friedman to sweep him here. The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Good work by Friedman as he checks the leg kick. Friedman dives in for a single leg takedown but Silva sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Friedman shoots in for a double leg but Silva sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Friedman showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Silva.
Friedman fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Silva to the ground. Friedman is now in Silva's guard. Friedman landing some decent shots from guard. Silva is trying to keep Friedman in close.
Friedman lands a couple of decent looking shots. Friedman is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Friedman is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Friedman postures up and lands a big shot to Silva's brow.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Friedman with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Silva manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Friedman manages to get himself to full guard.

They are putting on a show! Silva wants to control from the top but Friedman keeps moving. Friedman is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Silva pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Friedman is keeping the position for now. Friedman keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Milton Friedman dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Silva fails to land the takedown. Friedman shoots in but no luck this time. Friedman closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Silva's guard. Silva wants to control the position but Friedman says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Friedman scoring with strikes to the body and head. Friedman wants to free his trapped foot but Silva is holding on for dear life with his legs. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Friedman drops an elbow to the side of Silva's head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Friedman scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Friedman lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Silva tries to get to full guard but Friedman has control of the leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. Friedman has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Silva trying to control from the bottom.
Friedman looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Nice strikes from Friedman there. Friedman is nestled in close to Silva, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Friedman drops an elbow to the side of Silva's head. Silva is trying to control but can't.
Friedman looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Silva with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Oh Silva is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Friedman landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Friedman is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Silva is hurt! He's hurt bad - Friedman fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Silva from any more punishment! Congratulations to Friedman! Great finish!
