PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Malik Jones (ranked 438 p4p, 44 weight class) and Leo Yaj (ranked 962 p4p, 101 weight class). Yaj has chosen Dragula - Rob Zombie as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Malik Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 14 - 0, fighting out of New York, Leo Yaj!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Taro Takaoka and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Yaj has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Jones is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Yaj moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Yaj looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Good work by Yaj as he checks the leg kick.
Nice takedown defense from Jones. No joy for Yaj on that attempt.
Jones lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Jones shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Yaj eats them both and turns towards Jones to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Jones uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Yaj.

Yaj takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Yaj checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Yaj moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Nice uppercut there from Jones.
Yaj scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Jones just misses with a punch to the body.
Yaj shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense.
Yaj tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Jones sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Yaj's guard.

Jones seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Well Jones has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
