Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Boris Bulletzowich! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Baron Shushkev! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Franklyn Lucas and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Excellent takedown into side control there by Bulletzowich. Bulletzowich trying to control the position but Shushkev is working away. Bulletzowich in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Check out the look on Bulletzowich's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Bulletzowich lands an elbow. Bulletzowich is trying to ground and pound but Shushkev uses the momentary lack of control by Bulletzowich to regain half guard. Shushkev avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Bulletzowich. Bulletzowich working Shushkev over with strikes. Shushkev moves into full guard.
Bulletzowich distracts Shushkev with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Shushkev keeping moving, preventing Bulletzowich from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bulletzowich accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bulletzowich with a nice head shot there. Shushkev looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Bulletzowich trying to control the position from guard on top but Shushkev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Bulletzowich cracks Shushkev with a solid left hand. Shushkev looking to control.
Bulletzowich postures up in Shushkev's guard and throws a big left but Shushkev blocks it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shushkev keeping moving, preventing Bulletzowich from controlling successfully. Bulletzowich trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Shushkev preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Shushkev keeping full guard, as Bulletzowich tries to pass.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bulletzowich throws a strike but Shushkev rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Bulletzowich keeping full guard, as Shushkev tries to pass. Bulletzowich looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shushkev is one step ahead there. Bulletzowich is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Shushkev is not content to let Bulletzowich control the position. Shushkev keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Bulletzowich looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shushkev is staying active underneath Bulletzowich, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Bulletzowich working Shushkev over with strikes. Shushkev is looking to control Bulletzowich's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Shushkev avoid being mounted? Bulletzowich throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Shushkev is not content to let Bulletzowich control the position. We've been hearing good reports from Bulletzowich's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Bulletzowich looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Shushkev with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Shushkev is trying to control but can't.
Shushkev is controlling Bulletzowich's trapped leg to prevent Bulletzowich from advancing to side control. Bulletzowich throwing shots but Shushkev is blocking nicely. Shushkev moves into full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bulletzowich tries to free his leg and advance position but Shushkev is retaining full guard. Bulletzowich trying to control the position from guard on top but Shushkev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Shushkev is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Bulletzowich is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bulletzowich accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Shushkev controlling the position. Bulletzowich throwing strikes from guard but Shushkev blocks nicely. Bulletzowich lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Boris Bulletzowich dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Shushkev gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Bulletzowich postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Bulletzowich slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Shushkev takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Bulletzowich connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Shushkev some visible discomfort.
Shushkev takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Shushkev is rocked! Bulletzowich trying to control the position but Shushkev is working away. Shushkev is still in real trouble! Can Bulletzowich finish him? Bulletzowich cracks Shushkev with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Bulletzowich immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Shushkev is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Bulletzowich!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Boris Bulletzowich! Boris Bulletzowich was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
