PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mark Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Killa Magilla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steel comes to the cage accompanied by Iron Man. Magilla has chosen Primer 55-Big FU as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Killa Magilla has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Steel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Killa Magilla!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steel looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Magilla is fending him off so far but Steel persists. Nope, Magilla circles away and we're back to standing.
Steel checks a low kick from Magilla.
Magilla swats away the attempt to clinch by Steel.
Steel fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Magilla stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Steel. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Steel is looking to clinch but Magilla is avoiding it.

Steel shoots in and bounces Magilla off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Steel has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Magilla controls Steel momentarily but Steel frees himself.
Steel trying to control the position from guard on top but Magilla is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Magilla is looking for a triangle but Steel pushes his legs off easily.

Steel gets to his feet - Magilla follows without any prompting.

Steel forces Magilla back against the cage and clinches.
Steel tries to pull guard but Magilla won't allow it.
Magilla prevents Steel from breaking the clinch.

Magilla dodges an elbow strike from Steel.
Steel tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Magilla smiles and moves away.
Steel uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Magilla.
Magilla avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Steel doesn't manage to clinch there - Magilla circles away.

Steel tries to clinch but Magilla moves out of range.
Magilla misses with the combination.
Steel doesn't manage to clinch there - Magilla circles away.
Magilla closes this distance looking for a takedown but Steel circles away.

Magilla shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Steel is defending against the submission attempts here by Magilla.
Steel is breathing heavily.

Magilla stands up out of the half guard.

Magilla feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Magilla wants to control from the top but Steel keeps moving.
Magilla trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Steel tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Magilla pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Steel is keeping the position for now.
Magilla is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Magilla is fighting to break Steel's control of his arms but Steel is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Steel moves into range and clinches up with Magilla.
Magilla wants to stall.
Steel tries to stall but Magilla uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Steel lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Steel.
Steel goes for a takedown in the clinch but Magilla prevents it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Steel has Magilla pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Magilla manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Steel trying to land knees to the body.
Steel looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Steel letting Magilla take a breather here.
Magilla tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Steel lands a knee to the body.
Steel drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Magilla gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Magilla avoids the elbow strike from Steel, against the cage.
Magilla stalling against the cage.
Magilla changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Steel fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Magilla gets a takedown into half guard.
Steel tries to roll over but Magilla keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Killa Magilla dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Magilla gets the takedown into side control.
Steel pushes Magilla away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Magilla gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Magilla working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Steel is trying to improve his position.
Magilla works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Steel is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Magilla tries to advance to mount but can't.

Magilla tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Magilla has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Steel is trying to control Magilla's posture but Magilla avoids it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Steel stops Magilla from passing to mount.
Steel regains half guard.
Steel trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Magilla manages to pass to mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Magilla throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Steel tries to hold on but Magilla pushes him away.

Magilla with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Steel tries to reverse the position but Magilla maintains control.
Magilla can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Steel is looking to escape.

Magilla looking to secure an arm triangle but Steel defends it well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Magilla looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Magilla working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Steel looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Magilla! Submission of the night perhaps?
