Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between DeeJay Kawana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shinjoi Takeoi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for DeeJay Kawana has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, DeeJay Kawana!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinjoi Takeoi!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Sosuke Kotani and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takeoi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kawana as he jumps to the side.
Kawana stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Kawana gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Takeoi has clasped his hands together around Kawana's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Takeoi is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kawana has escaped the position, nice work there.
Kawana tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Takeoi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Takeoi wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kawana, who protects the arm well.
Kawana wants to control but Takeoi postures up.
Takeoi throws an elbow but Kawana slips to the side and avoids it well.

Takeoi thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Kawana is trying to control Takeoi's posture but Takeoi avoids it.

Kawana prevents Takeoi from moving into mount.

Takeoi swings around for an armbar but Kawana sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Takeoi's guard.
Kawana throws a big right hand that misses.

Takeoi is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Kawana trying to control the position from guard on top but Takeoi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kawana knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Takeoi on the ground.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Takeoi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kawana pinned against the cage. Kawana gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kawana fails in his attempt to clinch.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Kawana!

Kawana connects with a nice looking jab.
Kawana misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Kawana rushes Takeoi and presses him up against the cage.
Takeoi blocking some punches.

Kawana is fighting off a takedown attempt but Takeoi is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Kawana to the mat. Kawana regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Takeoi tries to free his leg and advance position but Kawana is retaining full guard.

Takeoi drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kawana looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kawana looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kawana!

Takeoi is looking for a sweep.
Takeoi is trying to work for a sweep but Kawana has mounted him!
Takeoi tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kawana wants to control the pace but Takeoi is squirming around nicely.
Takeoi is trying to escape the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that DeeJay Kawana will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kawana lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Takeoi moves out of range of the body kick from Kawana.
Kawana lands with an uppercut that bounces Takeoi off the cage and back into rage.
Kawana fails in his attempt to clinch.
Takeoi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Kawana connects with a body shot.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kawana looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Takeoi tries to keep at a distance but Kawana has taken the fight into the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kawana pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Takeoi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kawana but Kawana pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Kawana really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

DeeJay Kawana is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kawana tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kawana throws the left hand but Takeoi avoids the punch easily.
Takeoi takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kawana looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kawana throws out a loose jab but Takeoi uses good head movement to avoid it.
No luck for Takeoi with that takedown attempt.
DeeJay Kawana has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shinjoi Takeoi.

Horrible takedown by Takeoi or perhaps it was just good defense by Kawana which made him look bad.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Takeoi drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Takeoi drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kawana pulls his leg out and moves away.

Kawana tries to clinch up but Takeoi circles away and keeps his distance.

Horrible takedown by Takeoi or perhaps it was just good defense by Kawana which made him look bad.

Takeoi advances nicely into full mount.

Takeoi has hold of Kawana's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kawana manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Takeoi with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Kawana is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Takeoi is going olschool here, as he tries to force Kawana to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kawana shrugs it off.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Takeoi has control of Kawana's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Kawana regains control of the situation pretty easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shinjoi Takeoi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Takeoi bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Takeoi is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kawana is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Takeoi is trying to get an arm triangle but Kawana is defending well.
Takeoi trying to control the position but Kawana is working away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kawana tries to bench press Takeoi off him but Takeoi keeps the position.
Takeoi advances to full mount.
Shinjoi Takeoi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kawana swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Takeoi controlling the pace for now.
Kawana is desperately trying to improve his position but Takeoi has a good base and remains in mount.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Poor strikes thrown by Takeoi there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Takeoi cracks Kawana with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Kawana is sitting in close to Takeoi's body. Takeoi has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Kawana is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Kawana is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Takeoi.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:46 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Shinjoi Takeoi!
