The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Monteiro has closed the distance and engaged Best in a clinch.

Monteiro has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Best uses from the top position.
Best distracts Monteiro with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Monteiro had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Best defends it easily.

Monteiro escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Best gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Monteiro working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Best.
Best is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Monteiro manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Best manages to get himself to full guard.

Best is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Monteiro pushing down on Best's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Monteiro works his foot free and advances to mount.
Monteiro thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Monteiro tries to control but Best wriggling away.

Monteiro moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Best has worked his arm free - good work by Best!
Best manages to get back to half guard.
Best has his hands clasped together around Monteiro's back. He's all about the action.

Monteiro wants to stand but Best has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Best holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Monteiro is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Best is doing well to control the position and prevent Monteiro from advancing to side control.

Monteiro is looking to advance position but Best won't allow it.

Monteiro is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Monteiro seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Best does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Monteiro tries to pass the half guard into mount. Best knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Best has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Monteiro is working away from the top position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Monteiro working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Best knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Monteiro on the ground.
Monteiro passes to side control.

Monteiro has hold of Best's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Best seems comfortable defending it but Monteiro has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Best is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Best is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Monteiro couldn't care less - he's delighted!
