PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arther Speedy (ranked 6976 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brovadan Ftb (ranked 5006 p4p, 0 weight class). Brovadan Ftb is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Arther Speedy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brovadan Ftb!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Shirou Masuda and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ftb pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Speedy keeps the fight on the outside.

Speedy scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Ftb really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Speedy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Speedy decides to stand back up.
Speedy fails with the takedown.
Ftb throws a head kick that misses
and Speedy counters with a left to the body.
A chopping leg kick lands by Ftb.
Ftb tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Speedy is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Ftb.
Ftb tries a head kick but it misses.
Ftb throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ftb tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Speedy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Horrible takedown attempt by Speedy or perhaps it was just good defense by Ftb, which made it look bad.
Ftb stuffs the takedown attempt from Speedy. Speedy gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arther Speedy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Speedy closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Speedy is breathing heavily.
Ftb is looking for a sweep. Speedy is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ftb is looking to escape.
Speedy not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Speedy has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Speedy tries to pass to full mount but Ftb defends it.
Speedy thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ftb's head.
Ftb is trying to stand up here but Speedy is controlling him well.
Speedy is controlling the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Speedy passes the guard and advances to mount!

Speedy is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Ftb can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Speedy is landing with some decent strikes but Ftb is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Speedy lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Speedy lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Ftb is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Speedy controlling the pace for now.
Speedy scoring with strikes but Ftb is staying in there.

Speedy is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ftb has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Ftb is trying to escape the mount.
Speedy postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Ftb looks a forlorn figure.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ftb is trying desperately to improve position.
Ftb in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arther Speedy dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Speedy fails with a takedown attempt.
Speedy is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ftb sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Ftb replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Speedy blocks it well.
Ftb slaps away a takedown attempt from Speedy, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ftb throws a counter combo.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arther Speedy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ftb misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
As Ftb tries to get set, Speedy tries to push him back and clinch up but Ftb manages to avoid the attempt.
Ftb fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ftb throws a wild body kick that Speedy sees coming a mile off.
Ftb throws a lazy body kick

and Speedy counters with a single leg into guard. Ftb didn't expect that.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Speedy with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Speedy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Speedy is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Speedy postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ftb is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Speedy, into his guard.

Speedy tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ftb trying to control the position from guard on top but Speedy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Speedy keeping moving, preventing Ftb from controlling successfully.
Arther Speedy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ftb wants to pass the guard but Speedy is keeping the position.
Speedy trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Speedy pushes Ftb off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Ftb gets tackled into the cage by Speedy. Speedy maintains the clinch.
A short uppercut from Ftb.
Speedy blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Ftb misses with a hook from the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ftb swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Ftb tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Speedy pulls guard.

Speedy pushes Ftb off and gets back to his feet.

Speedy gets a takedown into half guard.
Ftb pushes Speedy off but Speedy dives into side control.
Speedy is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ftb can do to turn this around?
Speedy lands an elbow.
You can see the frustration on Ftb's face as Speedy controls the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Speedy is working Ftb over with some ground and pound from side control.

Speedy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ftb, who protects the arm well.
Speedy taking a breather here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arther Speedy dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


No luck with that takedown attempt from Speedy.
Ftb scores with a crisp jab that stopped Speedy in his tracks.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Ftb.
Ftb shoots in and drives through. Speedy sprawls well.
Speedy tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ftb sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Speedy somewhat.
Ftb jabs Speedy right on the nose. Speedy blinks but takes it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
No joy there for Ftb, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ftb shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Speedy but Speedy pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Ftb wants to clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Speedy avoids the head kick by Ftb.
Brovadan Ftb seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ftb is looking to land body kicks.
Speedy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ftb's waist but Ftb gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Speedy off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arther Speedy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ftb misses with a kick to the body.

Speedy drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Speedy preventing the sweep.
Speedy working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Ftb's head.

Speedy decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ftb, up you get!

Speedy closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Ftb tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Speedy tries to pull guard but Ftb won't allow it.
Speedy blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Ftb looking for a takedown.
Ftb swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Speedy blocking some punches.
Ftb jumps guard but Speedy turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Ftb.
Ftb tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Speedy avoids it.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Speedy.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ftb misses with a hook from the clinch.

Speedy gets control of Ftb's arms and successfully pulls guard. Speedy will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Speedy manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Ftb is trying to stall.
Speedy is trying to drag Ftb to the mat but Ftb just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Ftb throws a knee to the head but misses.
Speedy effectively controlling the action here.
Speedy is stalling here.
Speedy seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.
Ftb is trying to stall.
Ftb is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Speedy is defending well for now.
Speedy blocking some punches.

Speedy pulls guard effortlessly.
Speedy wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Ftb trying to control but Speedy is working from the bottom.

Speedy has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Ftb has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Brovadan Ftb has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Speedy successfully pulls guard.
Ftb wants to get up but he can't break Speedy's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Speedy has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Arther Speedy.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Speedy, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
