Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, James Bean! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, John Lawler! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Donald Grub and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Bean as Lawler shoots in. An attempted straight right counter from Bean misses the target. Bean has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Lawler has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Lawler there as he acknowledges the shot. Lawler looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Bean has managed to clinch.
Lawler is working for takedown but Bean is calmly controlling the position for now. Still in the clinch, Bean scores with a nice short uppercut. Bean lands a right hand that snaps the head of Lawler backwards. Lawler fails to pull the fight into his guard.
James Bean has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Lawler. Lawler has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bean is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. A short body shot lands from Bean as the two fighters clinch.
Bean scores with a shot to the side of Lawler's head. Lawler is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Bean scores with a nice hook to the head. Bean works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Bean lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. A short body shot lands from Bean as the two fighters clinch.
Lawler looks winded! Bean lands on the inside with an uppercut. Bean stops a takedown attempt from Lawler.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bean lands with a short shot to the head.
Lawler is rocked! Bean lands a left hand that snaps the head of Lawler backwards. Lawler is still on wobbly legs! Can Bean finish him? Bean creates a little bit of space and unloads with a massive uppercut! Lawler drops to the mat, out cold! Wow, that was brutal! What a knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:16 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). James Bean! Our winner, James Bean, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
