The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jorge Garcia and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Micalinni shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Byrd sprawls well. Byrd wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Micalinni gets slowly back to his feet.
Byrd checks the leg kick nicely there.
Micalinni shoots in for a double leg but Byrd sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Micalinni throws a looping overhand right but Byrd ducks down to avoid it.
Byrd closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Micalinni throws Byrd to one side and escapes!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Micalinni is defended easily by Byrd.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sam Micalinni. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Byrd throws a combination that misses
and Micalinni counters with a big uppercut that knocks Byrd off his feet! Micalinni dives into side control looking to finish!
It looks like Del Byrd has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Micalinni fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Micalinni has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Micalinni is working to tighten his grip on Byrd's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Byrd has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Micalinni is really squeezing tight and eventually Byrd passes out! Micalinni breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
