PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jonny Le Pizon (ranked 4412 p4p, 494 weight class) and Kung Le (ranked 5755 p4p, 578 weight class). Kung Le will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jonny Le Pizon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kung Le!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, David Schapiro and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Le shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Le controlling from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Le Pizon is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Le presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Le gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Le Pizon.
Le lands a good knee to the midsection. Le Pizon won't want to take too many of those.
Le Pizon definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Le Pizon drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Le gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Le has a couple of punches blocked by Le Pizon.
Le lands a nice knee to the body.
Le looking for a takedown.
Le crunches a lovely knee into Le Pizon's ribcage.

Le breaks the clinch.
Le throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Le pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Le Pizon shoots in looking for a takedown. Le tries to sprawl out of it but Le Pizon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Le manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jonny Le Pizon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Le gets a double leg takedown into Le Pizon's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Le Pizon is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
My spies in Blackscar Fitness inform me that Le has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Le seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Le Pizon has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Le off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Le Pizon shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Le sprawls well. Le wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Le Pizon gets slowly back to his feet.
Le connects with a leg kick. Le Pizon looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Le Pizon takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Le stuffs the takedown.
Le bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Le lands with a slapping head kick.

Le throws a sloppy head kick and Le Pizon moves out of range easily.
Le Pizon was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Le closes the distance but Le Pizon moves to the side
and Le Pizon counters with a nice uppercut.


It looks like Kung Le has been cut.
Le stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Le wants it to stay on the feet.
Le swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Le Pizon was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Le Pizon has his takedown stuffed
and Le counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Le plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Le misses with a takedown attempt - Le Pizon sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Le Pizon tries to counter with a takedown but Le is quick to defend against it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kung Le dominated that round.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Le Pizon slips a jab and a cross from Le.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Le, right into the meat.
No joy there for Le, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Le fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Le has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Le throws a series of punches but Le Pizon avoids them all with ease.
Le Pizon doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Le counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Jonny Le Pizon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Le misses with some punches.
Le stalling.

Le can't find room to land a body shot as Le Pizon controls the action.
Le lands a shot to the body.
Le Pizon is working for takedown but Le is calmly controlling the position for now.
Le has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Le Pizon is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Le gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Kung Le seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Le Pizon fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Le thows a body kick. Le Pizon tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Le Pizon shoots in but no luck this time.
Le scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Le Pizon takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Le connects with a high kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Le.

Le Pizon decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Le manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Le Pizon keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Le lands with a short shot to the head.
Le tries to land a knee to the head but Le Pizon blocks with his arms.
Le is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Le Pizon gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Le Pizon drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Le tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Le Pizon's elbow.

Le lands a head kick. Le Pizon smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Kung Le showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Le Pizon is looking to work some ground and pound but Le has wrist control.
Le trying to keep a closed guard but Le Pizon is proving a slippery customer.

Le wants to sweep but no luck.
Le Pizon loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Le is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Le in particular looking to stall.
Jonny Le Pizon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Le Pizon makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Le Pizon shoots in looking for a takedown. Le tries to sprawl out of it but Le Pizon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Le manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Le throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Le lands a head kick. Le Pizon smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Le Pizon shoots for a takedown but Le saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Le.

Le Pizon sneaks out the side door and pushes Le away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kung Le seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Le Pizon shoots in and bounces Le off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Le Pizon stops Le from standing up.
Kung Le is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Le keeping full guard, as Le Pizon tries to pass.
Le really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Le Pizon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Le Pizon advances to half guard.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Le Pizon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Le keeps working.
Le is trying to control but can't.
Le Pizon wants to take a breather but Le is having none of it.
Le is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jonny Le Pizon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

I would just about give that final round to Kung Le.
I've got Le winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
