The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bank throws a head kick that misses. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Nice sprawl there from Bank as Pinjata shoots in. Pinjata drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bank is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Pinjata thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Bank tries to escape but Pinjata is in control. Sloppy strikes there by Pinjata. Bank is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Pinjata asserts his dominance and retains side control. Pinjata is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bank has escaped the position, nice work there. Pinjata looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Pinjata working the strikes but Bank uses the opportunity to regain half guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bank can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pinjata is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bank sees it coming and defends easily. Pinjata really is a fat lump. Pinjata is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Bank has managed to free his arm - good work. Pinjata is working for a kimura but Bank is defending it quite comfortably.
Pinjata is breathing heavily. Bank is controlling Pinjata's trapped leg to prevent Pinjata from advancing to side control. Bank avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Pinjata. Bank manages to get to full guard.
Pinjata drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pinjata jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Pinjata looking to pass the guard. Bank is looking to stand up but Pinjata isn't so interested in that idea. Pinjata pushes down on Bank's leg and manages to get into half guard. Bank is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bank missing with punches from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Bank shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pinjata pinned against the cage. Pinjata gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Pinjata looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pinjata looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Pinjata working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Bank looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Pinjata! Submission of the night perhaps?
