Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tom Thomas (ranked 821 p4p, 40 weight class) and Dom Cruz (ranked 609 p4p, 26 weight class). Dom Cruz will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Tom Thomas! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dom Cruz! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Jorge Garcia and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thomas checks a leg kick. A kick lands to the mid section there for Cruz. Sloppy strikes from Cruz. Those never looked like landing. Cruz scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Thomas misses with an uppercut. Cruz saw that one coming. A looping hook to the body misses from Cruz. Thomas does a little dance to reset his feet. A head kick by Cruz misses and Cruz takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Thomas listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Cruz swings for the body but Thomas moves out of range.
Cruz fails to land the takedown. Thomas throwing a counter right hand but Cruz manages to avoid it. Cruz steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Thomas. Cruz shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cruz was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Thomas is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Jed's Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Cruz fails to land a wild elbow strike.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thomas regains half guard there - taking advantage of Cruz's attempt to lay and pray for a moment. Thomas is trying to stand.
Cruz not landing any meaningful shots this time. Thomas wants to get back to his feet. Cruz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Thomas's head. Cruz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Cruz misses with a head shot. Thomas uses the momentum to regain guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Thomas uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Cruz misses with a telegraphed body shot
enabling Thomas to counter with a crisp jab. Cruz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Thomas avoids it really well and circles away. A little feinted left hand from Thomas on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cruz looks for the body kick but Thomas saw that one coming. Thomas swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Cruz throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Thomas connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Thomas takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
No joy there for Cruz, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Cruz shoots for a double leg takedown but Thomas sprawls well. He's pushed Cruz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Tom Thomas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dom Cruz. This has been an exciting period of action! Cruz lands with a slapping head kick. Thomas blocks a head kick by Cruz.
Cruz has a takedown stuffed. Thomas throws a hook to the side of Cruz's head but Cruz sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Cruz misses with a hook to the body
and Cruz takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Cruz fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Thomas manages to avoid it. A little feinted left hand from Thomas on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Cruz tries to work over Thomas's front leg with a kick but Thomas checks it. Cruz is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Thomas rather than just go for the knockout.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Cruz misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
It looked like Thomas wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Cruz tries to move into range but Thomas moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Tom Thomas is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. The fighters circling - Cruz throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Cruz lands a body shot.
Cruz scores with a head kick. Thomas tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Cruz throws an off balance right hand
and Thomas counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Cruz is rocked! Thomas is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Cruz throws a sloppy head kick and Thomas moves out of range easily. Thomas was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Cruz throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Thomas takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Thomas takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Cruz looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Thomas is fending him off so far but Cruz persists. Nope, Thomas circles away and we're back to standing. Thomas looks to land a right hand but Cruz moved out of range.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cruz tries a head kick but it misses.
Cruz feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Thomas's calf. Cruz misses with a body kick. Cruz smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. No luck with that takedown attempt from Cruz. Cruz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Thomas pushes Cruz off and gets back to his feet.
Cruz bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Thomas misses the shot to the body. Cruz shoots and misses and Thomas counters with a stiff right hand. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Thomas scores with a hook to the body. Cruz takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Cruz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Thomas is looking to counter punch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Tom Thomas will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Thomas counters with a straight right hand. Cruz is still on wobbly legs! Can Thomas finish him? Thomas throws an overhand right that lands on Cruz's shoulder, as Cruz tries to avoid the shot. Cruz throws a right and a left that Thomas avoids nicely. It looked like Thomas wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Cruz seems to have recovered his senses. Cruz misses with a takedown attempt enabling Thomas to counter with a crisp jab. Cruz throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Thomas avoids the head kick by Cruz.
A counter left hand to the body from Thomas misses its target. Cruz throws a body kick that misses. Thomas throws a big counter combination but Cruz scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Cruz looks for a takedown but Thomas sprawls well. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cruz will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
A low kick from Cruz misses and Thomas counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Thomas with a nice cross.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cruz shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Thomas counters with a big right hand! Oh Cruz is in trouble here! Thomas follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!
