Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chan Wathan! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kid Kamamoto! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wathan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kamamoto sprawls well initially but Wathan persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Kamamoto is trying to get back to full guard. Wathan is working for a kimura but Kamamoto is defending it quite comfortably.

Kamamoto is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Kamamoto really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wathan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Wathan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kamamoto sees it coming and defends easily. Kamamoto is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Wathan pulls his head out easily. Kamamoto tries to roll over but Wathan keeps him under control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wathan takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Wathan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Wathan working over Kamamoto with some ground and pound. Kamamoto looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Wathan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kamamoto does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Kamamoto flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Kamamoto makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kamamoto. Wathan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Kamamoto is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Kamamoto trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Wathan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wathan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Kamamoto keeping moving, preventing Wathan from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Kamamoto shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Wathan works his way to full guard. Good work. Wathan working for a triangle but Kamamoto defends it easily.
Wathan thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Kamamoto is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Kamamoto must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Wathan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kamamoto can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Kamamoto postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Kamamoto jumps back into Wathan's guard. Kamamoto postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Wathan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kamamoto can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Kamamoto drops back for a leg! Chan Wathan dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Nice takedown defense from Kamamoto. No joy for Wathan on that attempt. Kamamoto dodges the punch combination from Wathan.
The fighters circle momentarily. Wathan darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Nice sprawl there from Kamamoto as Wathan shoots in. Wathan darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Wathan is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kamamoto is staying active underneath Wathan, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Kamamoto is looking for a sweep. Wathan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Kamamoto looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Wathan uses his free foot to push down on Kamamoto's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kamamoto. Chan Wathan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wathan is going olschool here, as he tries to force Kamamoto to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kamamoto shrugs it off. Kamamoto regains half guard. Wathan prevents Kamamoto from improving his position. Wathan works his way into full mount! BOOM! Wathan connects with a massive shot to the dome!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kamamoto can do anything to dispel that myth. Kamamoto flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Wathan lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Kamamoto hang on? Kamamoto is wriggling around trying to escape.

Wathan has hold of Kamamoto's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kamamoto manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
