23 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Denver Washington! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shigeki Sano and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Washington shoots in for a double leg but Garver sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Garver plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
It looks like Denver Washington has been cut. Garver has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Washington. Garver throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Garver stuffs the takedown. Washington misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Garver throwing a counter right hand but Washington manages to avoid it. Garver uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Garver connects with a nice looking jab.
Washington gets the takedown into side control. Washington tries to move to mount but Garver blocks the move with his legs. Washington throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Washington wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Garver, who protects the arm well. Garver regains half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Washington connects with a nice short shot to Garver's temple.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Washington tries to stand and escape but Garver is controlling the position. Washington trying to control the action but Garver is working from the bottom. Washington missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Washington is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Garver defends it well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Washington wants to control but Garver is keeping him busy. Garver is holding on to half guard well. Washington not landing any meaningful shots this time. The fighters are battling for position here. Garver manages to regain full guard. Nice work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Garver looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Washington is pushing down on Garver's leg trying to pass to half guard. Garver is fighting to maintain full guard but Washington has managed to sneak the leg through.
That's one minute gone in the round. Washington is thwarting Garver's attempts to control the position. Washington wants to lay and pray for a moment but Garver keeps working. Washington is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Washington is looking to take a break and control but Garver is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Washington has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Garver defend it? Washington steps over the head and cranks it - Garver is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Washington!
