The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gitarre scores a takedown into full mount! Gitarre avoids the attempt from Ranger to control. Ranger tries to reverse the position but Gitarre maintains control. Ranger wants to hold on but Gitarre pushes him away. Gitarre tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Gitarre is going olschool here, as he tries to force Ranger to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ranger shrugs it off. Gitarre has hold of Ranger's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Ranger manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Ranger prevents Gitarre from taking his back. Ranger is looking to get to half guard. Ranger defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Gitarre.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gitarre looking to control but Ranger is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Gitarre has control of Ranger's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Ranger regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Gitarre trying to control but he's not successful this time. Gitarre jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Ranger manages to avoid the submission attempt. Ranger tries to buck Gitarre off but Gitarre is having none of it. Gitarre goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Ranger has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Gitarre but great work by Ranger.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Gitarre sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gitarre is staying active underneath Ranger, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Gitarre is looking to control Ranger's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gitarre avoid being mounted? Gitarre moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Ranger tries to free his leg and advance position but Gitarre is retaining full guard. Gitarre looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Gitarre looks gassed! Gitarre is looking for a triangle but Ranger pushes his legs off easily.

Gitarre avoids the attempt from Ranger to control. Ranger is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Gitarre controlling the position easily from mount. Ranger tries to lock up and control but Gitarre gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ranger stops Gitarre from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marc Gitarre dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Gitarre turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Ranger tries to buck Gitarre off but Gitarre is having none of it. Gitarre swings around for an armbar but Ranger sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gitarre's guard. Gitarre had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Ranger is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Gitarre Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Ranger's back instead. Gitarre trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Ranger doesn't escape. Gitarre working for the choke. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Ranger won't enjoy being in this position. Gitarre looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Ranger is tapping - it's over boys! Gitarre picks up the submission victory!
