Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Thomas Tank! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Derek Gray! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Yves DeLean and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tank throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Gray is looking to land body kicks. Tank half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Gray misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A chopping leg kick lands by Gray. Tank throws an overhand right that lands on Gray's shoulder, as Gray tries to avoid the shot. A looping hook to the body misses from Gray. Tank does a little dance to reset his feet. Tank swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Gray misses with a jab, cross combination.
Tank drops down looking for a counter takedown but Gray sprawls and moves away. Tank tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Tank will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Tank is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gray. Tank backing away here, and Gray unleashes a leg kick that just misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nice body kick from Gray. Tank shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Gray is defending against the submission attempts here by Tank.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gray can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tank passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Gray! Tank takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Tank punishing his opponent with strikes. Tank working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Gray turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Tank off and cradles Gray's limp body as Tank celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Thomas Tank!
