Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Angelo Mendez (ranked 1397 p4p, 189 weight class) and Chinggis Khaan (ranked 1001 p4p, 144 weight class). Mendez comes into the arena with Angelito blaring out of the sound system. Angelo Mendez could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Chinggis Khaan's chin.

9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chinggis Khaan! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Anni Minnemäki and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Khaan moves into range and clinches up with Mendez. Mendez breaks the clinch.
Khaan gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Khaan throws a punch but it's blocked by Mendez. A head punch on the inside from Khaan fails to land. Mendez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. A frustrated look appears on Mendez's face as he tries to break the clinch. A shot in the inside from Khaan. A short left from Khaan. Khaan misses with a short punch on the inside. Khaan lands with a right to the head. Khaan misses with some punches.
Mendez tries to throw a body punch but Khaan avoids it by throwing Mendez back against the cage. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Khaan. Khaan throws a punch but it's blocked by Mendez. Mendez is trying to force a seperation but Khaan has the dominant position. Mendez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Khaan forces Mendez back against the cage and clinches. Mendez breaks from the clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Khaan slips a straight right by Mendez. Mendez misses with a looping right. Khaan is looking to clinch.

Khaan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mendez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Khaan has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Mendez is landing a low percentage of strikes. Mendez ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Khaan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mendez paws at him with a jab and circles away. Mendez jabbing away but nothing is landing. Nice straight punches there by Khaan. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Khaan. Mendez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Khaan sees it coming and avoids it easily. Khaan gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Khaan has a couple of punches blocked by Mendez.

Khaan lands a nice uppercut. I was talking to Mendez's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Mendez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Mendez on the wrong end of a nice hook. Khaan is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Khaan moves into range and clinches up with Mendez. Khaan swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Khaan has Mendez pressed against the cage, preventing Mendez from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Mendez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Chinggis Khaan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mendez walks into a straight right hand from Khaan. Mendez throws a jab but it's blocked by Khaan. Khaan clinches with his opponent.

Mendez looks to land a right hand but Khaan moved out of range. Khaan fails in his attempt to clinch. Mendez throws a big counter combination but Khaan scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. The fight stays on the outside here - Khaan looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Khaan closes the distance and clinches. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chinggis Khaan dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Mendez connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Mendez connects with a good right hand that stumbles Khaan. Khaan circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Khaan lands a head shot. Khaan has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Khaan fails with an attempt to clinch.
Khaan scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Mendez circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mendez throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Mendez is throwing punches like he's double parked. Oh my word! Huge right hand from Mendez shuts the power down on Khaan. Lights out, game over! Mendez is your winner.
