Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gus Nelson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mason Walsh! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Walsh misses with an uppercut. Nelson saw that one coming. Walsh instigates a clinch. Walsh manages to break the clinch.
Walsh gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Walsh is pushing Nelson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Walsh is struggling to control the position. Walsh crunches a lovely knee into Nelson's ribcage. Nelson takes a knee to the side of the body. Nelson tries to circle away but Walsh has him pinned against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Walsh lands a damaging elbow.
It looks like Gus Nelson has been cut. Nelson takes an elbow to the temple. Nelson working aggressively here.
Nice elbow from Walsh. Walsh lands a big knee! That's hurt Nelson! Oh, he's all over the place! Walsh lands another knee that sends Nelson to the floor and the referee steps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mason Walsh! An out of breath Mason Walsh thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
