Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shane Warne (ranked 523 p4p, 56 weight class) and Mister Island (ranked 1124 p4p, 117 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shane Warne!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mister Island!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Andrew Berry and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Island shoots for a takedown but Warne saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Warne changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Warne defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Island.
Island fails to land the takedown.
Shane Warne has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mister Island.

Warne gets a double leg takedown into Island's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Warne wants to pass the guard but Island is keeping the position.

Island is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Island can't keep his opponent in guard - Warne advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Island is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Warne can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Island is looking to escape.
Island wants to hold on but Warne pushes him away.
Island sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Island felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Warne is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Island can do to turn this around?

Warne goes for an armbar but Island turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Island.

Island drops back, looking for a kneebar! Warne looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Warne looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Warne!

Island can't keep his opponent in guard - Warne advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Island has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Warne is working away from the top position though.

Island is staying active underneath Warne, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Warne is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.

Island changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Warne tries to avoid it but Island manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Warne to the ground. Warne escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Warne drops down looking for a counter takedown but Island sprawls and moves away.

Island closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Warne quickly recovers to half guard.

Island is working for a kimura here but Warne manages to reverse the position and he's now in Island's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Island working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Warne doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Warne manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Island takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Warne tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Warne has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Warne is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Island is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Warne has an Americana. Island didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Warne is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Warne hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

A relieved looking Shane Warne thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
