Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rodney Cote! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Derek McConahan! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cote closes the distance and clinches. Cote tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. McConahan smiles and moves away.
McConahan waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Cote. Cote tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but McConahan defends well and Cote ends up having to push McConahan into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. McConahan closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cote quickly recovers to half guard. Cote manages to escape and get back to his feet! Cote manages to get an easy takedown there - catching McConahan on his heels. He'll look to pass McConahan's guard now, I'm sure. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cote throwing strikes from guard but McConahan blocks nicely. Cote drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but McConahan manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cote has McConahan in his guard.
Cote will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. McConahan gets to his feet. Cote looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
That's one minute gone in the round. McConahan throws a head kick but Cote moves out of range.
McConahan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - McConahan lands in his opponent's guard. McConahan tries to free his leg and advance position but Cote is retaining full guard. Cote not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
McConahan sitting in guard here, content to control. Cote trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! McConahan working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. McConahan is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cote holds on and takes a little breather.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cote working a defensive guard here.
Cote striking off his back but it's not causing McConahan any problems.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Cote checks the leg kick nicely there.
McConahan drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. McConahan trying to control the position from guard on top but Cote is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. McConahan won't allow Cote to get back to his feet. McConahan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McConahan lands a couple of decent looking shots. McConahan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Cote trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cote is looking for a triangle but McConahan pushes his legs off easily.

Cote wants to get back to his feet but McConahan is in a dominant position and won't allow it. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Cote trying to control the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. McConahan clinches up with Cote and pushes him back against the cage. Cote manages to pull guard.
McConahan trying to control the position from guard on top but Cote is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Cote will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
McConahan looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Cote is striking but McConahan is not phased and passes to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Derek McConahan will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
Cote fails to land the takedown. McConahan shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. McConahan showed some decent athleticism there.
Cote is rocked! McConahan lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Cote! More strikes land and this one is all over! McConahan jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
