PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tank Ispa (ranked 3155 p4p, 411 weight class) and Atreyu Nakamotto (ranked 3120 p4p, 409 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tank Ispa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Atreyu Nakamotto!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Franklyn Lucas and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nakamotto misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ispa.
Nakamotto loads up on a big right hand but Ispa slips the punch.

Nakamotto stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Nakamotto wants it to stay on the feet.
Despite the aggression on Nakamotto's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Ispa lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Nakamotto circles away quickly and effectively.
Ispa needs to keep his hands up - Nakamotto had a free shot at his head there.
Nakamotto misses with a hook. Ispa ducked under it nicely.
Nakamotto tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ispa paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Ispa throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ispa.
Nakamotto swings for the body but Ispa moves out of range.
Nakamotto ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ispa moves away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ispa closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Nakamotto's guard.

Ispa seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Nakamotto can't keep his opponent in guard - Ispa advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Ispa looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Ispa slips a nice elbow through Nakamotto's hands, connecting with Nakamotto's forehead.

Ispa is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Ispa content to control rather than advance.
Ispa seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nakamotto for as long as he can get away with.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tank Ispa dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ispa tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ispa shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nakamotto pinned against the cage. Nakamotto gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nakamotto let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Nakamotto wants to clinch up but Ispa keeps it at a distance.
A jab lands there for Nakamotto.
Ispa tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Nakamotto swivels and escapes.
Ispa takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Ispa connects with a good right hand that stumbles Nakamotto. Nakamotto circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Ispa swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Nakamotto fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

A looping hook to the body misses from Nakamotto. Ispa does a little dance to reset his feet.
Ispa cracks a nice hook into Nakamotto's ribs.
Atreyu Nakamotto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Nakamotto throws a hook to the side of Ispa's head but Ispa sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Nakamotto lands a nice looking body kick.

Nakamotto pushes Ispa up against the cage in a clinch.
Ispa misses with a short punch on the inside.
Ispa lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
I was talking to Ispa's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Nakamotto swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Ispa tries a body shot but Nakamotto blocks it.
Nakamotto lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Ispa backwards.
Nakamotto misses with some punches.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Ispa creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Ispa tries a body shot but Nakamotto blocks it.
Nakamotto fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Ispa drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Nakamotto gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tank Ispa. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ispa scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Ispa is trying to pull guard but Nakamotto has him pressed against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Nakamotto lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Nakamotto swings wildly with an uppercut but Ispa uses good head movement to avoid it.
Nakamotto can't find room to land a body shot as Ispa controls the action.

Nakamotto stalling in the clinch but Ispa improves position.
Ispa has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Nakamotto avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Ispa has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Nakamotto uses from the top position.

Ispa is looking for a triangle but Nakamotto pushes his legs off easily.

Nakamotto got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ispa has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nakamotto has managed to get both his arms back between Ispa's legs - danger averted.

Ispa escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nakamotto gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
