Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Johnson (ranked 7381 p4p, 664 weight class) and Paul Ines (ranked 8466 p4p, 702 weight class). Mike Johnson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Ines! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Columbo Gatti and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson misses with a low kick as Ines jumps back. Johnson misses with a leg kick letting Ines counter with a right hand. Ines lands a jab-cross combination. Johnson cracks Ines with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Johnson on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Ines misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Johnson changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. The crowd cheers as Ines lands an impressive looking overhand right. Johnson doesn't seem phased though. A big left from Ines misses. Ines misses with the combination.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ines misses with a jab, cross combination.
Ines swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ines moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Ines connects with a good right hand that stumbles Johnson. Johnson circles away out of range and recomposes himself. The fight moves into the clinch position. Johnson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Ines pulls his leg out and moves away.
Johnson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Ines's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Johnson scoring with punches to the head and body. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Johnson's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Ines has his hands on Johnson's head, controlling the position. Johnson postures up and lands a big shot to Ines's brow. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ines can do anything to dispel that myth. Johnson landing with the ground and pound. Johnson passes Ines's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Johnson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ines tries to roll over but Johnson keeps him under control. Johnson escapes and gets back to his feet. Ines feints a jab promting Johnson to slip. Ines then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Johnson slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Ines lands with an uppercut that bounces Johnson off the cage and back into range. Johnson throws a jab when Ines was well out of range. This has been an exciting period of action! Johnson gets a double leg takedown into Ines's guard. Johnson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Ines is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Johnson is aware though and is defending well. Ines working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Johnson. Johnson working some strikes from top position. Johnson trying to control but Ines is working from the bottom. Johnson cracks Ines with a solid left hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson stands up over Ines, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Johnson is in close to Ines's body, working some short punches and elbows. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ines looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Johnson chips away with some ground and pound. Johnson throws a big elbow that misses. Ines has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Johnson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ines swivels though and keeps the full guard. Johnson is working Ines over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Johnson trying to control but Ines is working from the bottom. Johnson landing some decent shots from guard. Ines really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Johnson trying to control but Ines is working from the bottom. Johnson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ines is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Johnson is in close to Ines's body, working some short punches and elbows. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Johnson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Ines wants to get back to his feet but Johnson is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Johnson is working Ines over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Johnson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ines is keeping the position for now. Ines has momentary wrist control but Johnson slips an elbow through the middle. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Mike Johnson will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Johnson clinches. Johnson is working for takedown but Ines is calmly controlling the position for now. Johnson breaks the clinch.
Ines clobbers Johnson with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Johnson misses with a straight left. Ines fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Johnson on the side of the head. Paul Ines seems to be getting the better of the standup. Ines connects with a right hand. Johnson shakes it off. The fight moves into the clinch position. Johnson is trying to drag Ines to the mat but Ines just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Ines has a couple of punches blocked by Johnson.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Johnson can't get the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ines lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. With the two fighters working up against the cage, Johnson just misses with a elbow thrown towards Ines's brow. Ines is pushing Johnson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Johnson as Ines tries to tie him up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. A nice right hand lands inside from Ines. Johnson tries to pull guard but Ines won't allow it.
Ines is pushing Johnson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Ines tries to break free but Johnson pushes him back against the cage. Johnson is trying to trip Ines. He has hold of a leg but Ines is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Johnson persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Ines is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Johnson is aware though and is defending well. Johnson throwing strikes but missing. Johnson chips away with some ground and pound. Johnson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson won't allow Ines to get back to his feet. Johnson scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Johnson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Ines avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Ines can't keep his opponent in guard - Johnson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Ines tries to get to full guard but Johnson has control of the leg. Ines trying to control but Johnson postures up.
Ines wants to improve his position but Johnson is controlling well.

That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Johnson lands a nice short elbow. Johnson not landing any meaningful shots this time. Johnson landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Ines is rocked! Ines throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Ines is still in real trouble! Can Johnson finish him? Johnson throwing shots but Ines is blocking nicely. Ines seems to have recovered his senses. Johnson looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Johnson is working for a kimura but Ines is defending it quite comfortably.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Ines keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Johnson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Ines taking some punishment here, with Johnson in his half guard. Johnson scores with a big shot! Ines's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Ines! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
