PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Israel Hand (ranked 1144 p4p, 161 weight class) and Rodney Garcia (ranked 1787 p4p, 244 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Israel Hand!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 18 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Rodney Garcia!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Jonathan Paton and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hand lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Garcia takes one on the button.
Garcia darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Hand has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Hand jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Garcia let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Hand lands with a cross.
Hand does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
A big right from Hand misses.
Garcia gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Hand.
Hand drops his hands momentarily and Garcia takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Garcia throws out a loose jab but Hand uses good head movement to avoid it.
Garcia takes a swing at Hand's ribcage but misses.
It looked like Hand wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Rodney Garcia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Garcia tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hand swivels and escapes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Garcia tries to land a front kick but Hand steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Garcia scores with a shot to the body.
Hand punishes Garcia's body with a nice straight punch.
Garcia avoids the body shot from Hand.
Hand scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Garcia misses with a head kick.
Garcia sizes up Hand with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Hand scores with a jab to the head.
Hand throws a right and a left that Garcia avoids nicely.

Garcia takes a jab right on the kisser.
Hand uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Garcia.
Hand is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Garcia lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
No joy there for Garcia, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A punch lands to the side of Hand 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Hand staying out of range there.
Israel Hand is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hand tries a low kick but Garcia avoids it.
Hand takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
A jab from Garcia misses.
Hand uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Garcia.
Garcia misses with an uppercut.
Hand connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Hand rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Garcia moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A shot to the liver by Hand. Beautiful body shot.
Garcia throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Garcia slips under a jab from Hand.
Garcia follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

Garcia gets a double leg takedown into Hand's guard.
Hand pulls Garcia in close to prevent any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Garcia trying to control but Hand is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Garcia throws an elbow that misses. Hand uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Garcia's guard. Nice move by Hand!

Hand is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hand has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Garcia is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hand stays in close to Garcia's body and controls the position.

Garcia looking for subs off his back but Hand has passed one foot through into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hand seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Garcia wants to get back to full guard.
Hand content to control rather than advance.
Garcia trying to control here.
Hand trying to control the pace.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Israel Hand dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Garcia dives in and scores a takedown into Hand's guard.
Garcia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hand swivels though and keeps the full guard.
My spies in Got Your 6 inform me that Garcia has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Garcia is still trying to improve position.
Garcia postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Garcia trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Hand manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Garcia keeping moving, preventing Hand from controlling successfully.
Hand wanted to stand there but Garcia had control of the position.

Garcia striking off his back but it's not causing Hand any problems.
Hand controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Garcia tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hand is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Hand pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Garcia is keeping the position for now.

Garcia is looking to cinch up a triangle. Hand throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Garcia's body to avoid the submission. Garcia has instead reached around Hand's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Garcia arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Rodney Garcia!
During a confident post fight interview, Rodney Garcia thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
